Original Articles
Cover Letter
Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract
Original Articles must include a structured abstract of 250 words. Abstract must be 250 words. Abstract must be structured. Abstract must use the headings Objective, Method, Results, and Discussion and include at least three identified keywords from the manuscript.
Manuscript
Original Articles must not exceed 4,500 words excluding the abstract, references, tables, and figures. Manuscript should be organized with an introduction stating whether the study is hypothesis-generating or hypothesis-testing, a Method section describing preregistration if applicable, participant recruitment period, recruitment methods, inclusion and exclusion criteria, and measure reliability and validity, and a Discussion section including strengths and limitations. Manuscript must include a data availability statement, an IRB statement, Key Points/Summary of 2–4 bullet points, a plain-English Summary Statement, and at least five keywords.
References
References should follow APA 7th edition style. In-text citations must use the author-date method and the reference list must be alphabetical with DOIs included where available.
Figures & Tables
Original Articles may include no more than 8 figures and tables in total. Figures and tables may be included in the manuscript or provided as separate files. Tables must have descriptive titles and needed footnotes, and figures must have legends that succinctly describe the displayed information.
Systematic Reviews
Cover Letter
A cover letter is required only if any items are unchecked on the Review Checklist, and it must explicitly explain the rationale for each unchecked item. The cover letter must explicitly describe the rationale for any items left unchecked on the Review Checklist.
Abstract
A structured abstract is required. The abstract must be 250 words. The abstract must be structured. The abstract should be organized into Objective, Method, Results, and Discussion.
Manuscript
The manuscript must not exceed 7,500 words excluding abstract, references, tables, and figures. The manuscript must identify the report as a systematic review, meta-analysis, or both in the title and include Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusions with the review-specific content described for each section. The manuscript must include Key Points/Summary of 2–4 bullet points, a brief plain-English Summary in bulleted sentence format, and the month and year of the last literature search, which must be within 6 months of submission.
References
References may be submitted in any consistent style. The complete reference list must appear at the end of the paper, and references excluded due to language barriers must be saved in a supplemental file with English-language abstracts if available.
Figures & Tables
Figures and tables may be included in the manuscript or provided as separate files, and the supplemental file listing references for articles excluded due to language barriers must be uploaded with the review article. Tables describing included studies must contain separate entries for sociodemographic variables, use “NR” where demographic variables are not reported, and results should ideally include a PRISMA 2020 flow diagram and forest plot where applicable.
