Research Articles

Cover Letter A cover letter is required with the submission. The cover letter must explain any issues relating to journal policies, declare any potential competing interests, confirm that all authors approved the manuscript for submission, and confirm that the manuscript content has not been published or submitted elsewhere.
Abstract A structured abstract is required. Abstract must be 150 to 250 words. Abstract must be structured into four sections. Abstract headings must be Purpose, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript Manuscript must include a title page and the sections Background, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, and Declarations, with Methods permitted after Background. Manuscript must include three to ten keywords and all Declarations subsection headings, using 'Not applicable' for any non-relevant declaration section.
References References may include only published or in-press articles, clinical trial registration records, and abstracts or items available through public e-print/preprint servers, must exclude unpublished abstracts, unpublished data, and personal communications from the reference list, and journal abbreviations must follow Index Medicus/MEDLINE.
Figures & Tables Tables must be included in the main manuscript file, with tables under one page placed in the text and larger tables at the end, while figures must be uploaded separately in the order cited. Figure titles and table titles must not exceed 15 words, figure legends and table legends must not exceed 300 words, multi-panel figures must be submitted as a single composite file, and tables must not be submitted as figures.

Review Articles

The manuscript must include three to ten keywords, define abbreviations at first use and provide a list of abbreviations if used, and include Declarations subsections with any nonapplicable item labeled 'Not applicable'.
References References must use Vancouver style. Only published or in-press articles, clinical trial registration records, abstracts, and items available through public e-print/preprint servers may be cited, unpublished abstracts, unpublished data, and personal communications must not appear in the reference list, web links and URLs must be numbered and included in the reference list in full, and journal abbreviations must follow Index Medicus/MEDLINE.
Figures & Tables Figure titles and legends must appear in the main manuscript rather than in the graphic file, tables must be included in the main manuscript file, tables under one page may be placed within the manuscript while larger tables may be placed at the end with callouts in the text, and figures must be uploaded separately in text order. Multi-panel figures must be submitted as a single composite file, individual figure files must not exceed 10 MB, figure titles must not exceed 15 words, figure legends must not exceed 300 words, table titles must not exceed 15 words, table legends must not exceed 300 words, and tables must not be submitted as figures.

Figures & Tables Tables must be included in the main manuscript file, with tables under one page placed near their first citation and larger tables placed at the end of the document with their intended placement indicated in the text, while figures must be uploaded separately in the order first mentioned. Tables must not be submitted as figures and must use the word processor table object, and multi-panel figures must be submitted as a single composite file with keys incorporated into the graphic rather than the legend.
