JACC: Heart Failure is a specialist journal in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology family. It publishes findings on the pathophysiology, diagnosis, treatment, and care of heart failure patients, with a goal of improving understanding of the disease, clinical trials, clinical outcomes, and advances in therapies through timely scientific communication. The journal also covers interdisciplinary topics related to neuroscience, pulmonary medicine, nephrology, electrophysiology, surgery, pharmacogenetics, biomarkers, and metabolomics.

Original Research Papers

Cover Letter Cover letter is required. Cover letter must state that the paper is not under consideration elsewhere, has not been previously published, all authors approved the manuscript, disclose conflicts of interest or their absence, disclose any use of artificial intelligence, substantiate each author's contribution if there are more than 4 authors, and denote proper ethical oversight.
Abstract A structured abstract is required. Abstract must not exceed 250 words. Abstract must be structured and written in complete sentences. Abstract must use the headings Background, Objectives, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript Manuscript must be 5,000 words or fewer including text, references, and figure legends. Manuscript text must be structured as Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusions, and Original Research Papers must include hypothesis and purpose and implications for clinical practice. Manuscript must include key words, an abbreviations list, Clinical Perspectives placed after the text and before the acknowledgments and references, and a Central Illustration called out in the body with a title-and-caption legend listed last among figure legends.
References References must be cited by numerals in parentheses in order of first mention, list all authors if 6 or fewer or the first 3 followed by "et al." if more than 6, use Index Medicus journal abbreviations, and exclude personal communications, manuscripts in preparation, unpublished data, and abstracts older than 2 years.
Figures & Tables Original Research Papers must include a Central Illustration. Figures and the Central Illustration must be submitted separately from the manuscript file. Central Illustration must summarize the manuscript or a major section, be labeled "Central Illustration" rather than as a numbered figure, not duplicate other figures, include a legend with a title and caption listed last among figure legends, be original rather than adapted or reprinted, and trial logos must not appear.
