JHEP Reports is an open access journal of the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) and a companion journal to the Journal of Hepatology. It publishes original papers and reviews in basic, translational, and clinical research on liver diseases, with focus areas including clinical trials, novel diagnostics, precision medicine and therapeutics, cancer, cellular and molecular research, artificial intelligence, microbiome, epidemiology, and innovative technologies in hepatology.

Original Manuscripts

Cover Letter Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract A structured abstract is required for Original Manuscripts. The abstract should be no longer than 275 words. The abstract must be structured. The abstract must use the headings Background & Aims, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript Original Manuscripts should not exceed 6000 words including the abstract and figure/table legends but excluding references. The manuscript must be arranged as Title page, Abstract, Impact and Implications, Graphical abstract, Introduction, Materials and methods or Patients and methods, Results, Discussion, Abbreviations, Acknowledgements, References, Tables, Figure legends, and Figures. Original Manuscripts must include 3 to 5 highlights submitted separately for revised original articles, an Impact and Implications section of 3 to 4 sentences, an alphabetical list of non-standard abbreviations, and an AI declaration section before the references if generative AI was used.
References Original Manuscripts should not exceed 50 references. References may be in any consistent style at first submission and must include complete bibliographic details, with all cited references appearing in both the text and reference list.
Figures & Tables Original Manuscripts may include a maximum of 8 tables and/or figures. For the first submission, figures and tables may be placed within the text in a single manuscript file, while the graphical abstract and highlights for revised original articles must be uploaded as separate files. Figure legends must be provided separately from figure files and tables and figures must be correctly numbered with legends.

Review Articles

Cover Letter Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract An abstract is required, but for Review Articles it does not need to be structured. Abstract should be no longer than 275 words. Review Articles require an unstructured abstract.
Manuscript Review Articles should have a maximum length of 6000 words. Review Articles must include 5 to 10 key takeaways, and a graphical abstract is mandatory for revised manuscripts and must be submitted as a separate file.
References Review Articles should not exceed 150 references. References may be in any consistent style or format at first submission and must include author names, source title, article title where required, year, volume and issue or chapter, and pagination.
Figures & Tables Review Articles should include no more than 8 tables and/or coloured figures. For the first submission, text, figures, and tables may be combined in a single file with figures and tables placed within the text, while the graphical abstract for revised manuscripts must be uploaded separately.

Short Communications

Abstract An abstract is required. The abstract is included within the 2000-word maximum for the article, and no separate abstract limit is stated for this article type. The abstract must be structured. The abstract must use the headings Background & Aims, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
