Review

Cover Letter A cover letter is required. It should include the editor’s name, journal name, manuscript title, article type, brief background, brief methodology, very brief principal findings and significance, relevant conflicts of interest, corresponding author contact information for one corresponding author only, acknowledgment of applicable APF due if accepted, and a statement on preferred transfer options or declining automatic transfer; it is also required when explaining prior publication or consideration elsewhere or when requesting an APF waiver or support.
Abstract An abstract is required. The abstract must not exceed 450 words. The abstract must be structured. The abstract must use Background, Objective, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript The main body should aim for a maximum of 10,000 words. Reviews must use Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion. The manuscript must include a Conflict of Interests section, a Funding section, an Acknowledgments section if used, and a Data Availability statement is strongly recommended and should include code if generated.
References References must follow AMA style. References must be listed in numerical order corresponding to in-text citations, use sentence case for article titles, and include at least one unique identifier such as DOI, PMID, ISBN, or a functional URL with access date.
Figures & Tables Figures and tables should be placed within the text rather than at the end, and review articles typically must include a flow diagram of study selection as a figure in the Results section. Tables must be portrait only and created with Word’s in-built Table feature, while figures should be descriptive and self-explanatory and any study selection flow diagram should be included as a figure.

Original research articles must use the IMRD format with sections for Title, Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Acknowledgements, Funding Statement, Conflicts of Interest, Data Availability, Author Contributions, Abbreviations, and References. The manuscript must state the article type before the title, include keywords, use subheadings in Methods such as Study Design, Recruitment, Analysis, and Ethical Considerations, include matching Results subheadings when applicable, use Discussion subheadings for Principal Results, Limitations, Comparison with Prior Work, and Conclusions, and include a data availability statement and a funding statement.
References AMA style. References must be listed in numerical order corresponding to in-text citations and each reference must include at least one unique identifier such as a DOI, PMID, ISBN, or functional URL with access date.
Figures & Tables Figures and tables must be placed within the text rather than at the end, and each table or textbox must appear directly after the paragraph that first mentions it.
