Original Paper

Cover Letter A cover letter must be submitted.
Abstract A structured abstract is required. Abstract must not exceed 450 words. Abstract must be structured. Abstract must use the headings Background, Objective, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript Main body text should aim for a maximum of 10,000 words, excluding author metadata, figure content, multimedia appendices, and references. Manuscript must use IMRD format with sections including Title, Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Acknowledgements, Funding Statement, Conflicts of Interest, Data Availability, Author Contributions, Abbreviations, and References, and it must use further subheadings within the main Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion sections. Manuscript must include Keywords, an Abbreviations section, a Funding Statement declaring funding sources, a Conflicts of Interest section, and detailed disclosure of any generative AI use in the Methods or Acknowledgments sections.
References References must follow AMA style, 11th edition. References must be cited in square brackets in numerical order, listed in numerical order at the end of the manuscript, and include a PMID or DOI for journal references when available.
Figures & Tables Authors are encouraged to include no more than 5 tables and no more than 8 figures. Tables must be embedded in the manuscript file where they should appear, while figures should remain in the manuscript file for initial review and also be uploaded separately to the manuscript management system. Simple pie charts, simple bar graphs, and word clouds are not permitted, and tables must be created using the Word table function rather than submitted as image files except when colors or icons are essential.

Figures & Tables Reviews should include one figure in the Results section as a flow diagram of the study selection, and authors are encouraged to include no more than 5 tables and 8 figures per article. Tables must be included in the manuscript file where they should appear, while figures should remain in the manuscript file for initial review and also be uploaded separately. Tables may exceed 1.5 pages for systematic reviews.

Research Letter

Cover Letter A cover letter must be submitted.
Abstract Full abstracts are not included for Research Letters.
Manuscript Research Letters should be no longer than 1,000 words. Research Letters must use the standard research headings Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion. The manuscript must include a Funding section and a Conflicts of Interest section, and if there is no funding it must state, "The authors declared no financial support was received for this work."
References Research Letters may include a maximum of 10 references. References should be formatted according to AMA style. In-text citations must appear in square brackets in numerical order, and references must be listed in matching numerical order with one publication per reference number.
Figures & Tables Research Letters may include a maximum of 2 tables or figures. Tables must be included in the manuscript file, while figures must be uploaded separately to the manuscript management system.

Letter To The Editor

Cover Letter A cover letter must be submitted.
Abstract No abstract is required.
Manuscript Main body text should aim for a maximum of 10,000 words, excluding author metadata, figure content, multimedia appendices, and references. The letter must cite and critique or substantially comment on a recent JMIR Mental Health paper, usually one published within the past 6 months, and it is not a short research report. The manuscript should state the article type at the beginning just before the title and must include a Conflicts of Interest section stating “None declared” if applicable, while any generative AI use must be disclosed in the Methods or Acknowledgments sections with related conversations submitted as a Multimedia Appendix.
References References must be formatted according to AMA style, 11th edition. In-text citations must appear in square brackets in numerical order, and the reference list must be numbered to match with PMID or DOI added at the end of each journal reference.
