JMIR Nursing accepts the following article types. Click on an article type to view submission instructions.

Original Papers

Cover Letter A cover letter must be submitted and must not exceed 500 words.
Abstract Original Papers must include an abstract. The abstract must not exceed 450 words. The abstract must be structured. The abstract must use the headings Background, Objective, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript The main body should aim for a maximum of 10,000 words. Original Papers must use IMRD with the main headings Title, Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Acknowledgements, Funding Statement, Conflicts of Interest, Data Availability, Author Contributions, Abbreviations, and References. Original Papers must include Keywords, a Funding Statement, a Conflicts of Interest section, a Data Availability section, an Author Contributions section, and an Abbreviations section.
References References must follow AMA style. References must be listed in numerical order matching in-text citations and include at least one unique identifier for each reference.
Figures & Tables Tables exceeding approximately 3 pages in Word must be moved to a Multimedia Appendix. Figures and tables must be placed within the text rather than at the end. Tables must be in portrait format only.

Reviews In Nursing

Cover Letter A cover letter must be submitted and must not exceed 500 words.
Abstract A structured abstract is required. The abstract must not exceed 450 words. The abstract must be structured. The abstract must use the headings Background, Objective, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript The main body should aim for a maximum of 10,000 words. The manuscript must use the main headings Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion. The manuscript must include a Conflict of Interests section, state the article type at the beginning before the title, provide 5-10 keywords, disclose any use of generative artificial intelligence during manuscript preparation, and include one figure in the Results section as a flow diagram of study selection.
References References must follow American Medical Association style. References must be listed in numerical order matching in-text citations and include at least one unique identifier for each entry.
Figures & Tables Reviews In Nursing should include one figure in the Results section as a flow diagram of the study selection. Figures and tables must be placed within the text rather than at the end. Tables must be in portrait format only.

Letters To The Editor

Cover Letter A cover letter must be submitted.
Abstract An abstract is required unless this article type is specifically designated as requiring no abstract, which is not stated here. Abstract must not exceed 450 words. Abstract should be structured using the BOMRC framework for most article types. Abstract headings must be Background, Objective, Methods, Results, and Conclusions for structured abstracts.
Manuscript Main body should aim for a maximum of 10,000 words. Letters to the Editor must comment on a previously published article in a JMIR Publications journal and must not be brief research reports. Manuscript must include the article type at the beginning before the title, a Conflict of Interests section, disclosure of generative AI use if applicable, and 5-10 keywords or key phrases.
References References must follow AMA style. References must be listed in numerical order corresponding to in-text citations and include at least one unique identifier for each reference.
Figures & Tables Figures and tables must be placed within the text rather than at the end.

Research Letter

Cover Letter A cover letter must be submitted.
Abstract Research Letters do not include a full abstract and should instead provide a one-sentence summary in the abstract field under the heading Abstract. Research Letters do not use a full abstract and instead use a one-sentence summary. The abstract field should contain a sentence published under the heading Abstract.
Manuscript Research Letters must be no longer than 1000 words. Research Letters must use the standard research headings Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion. A Conflict of Interests section is mandatory, funding sources and use of generative artificial intelligence during manuscript preparation must be disclosed, and the article type should appear at the beginning of the manuscript just before the title.
References Research Letters must include a maximum of 10 references. References must follow the American Medical Association Manual of Style, 11th Edition. References must be listed in numerical order matching in-text citations and include at least one unique identifier such as a DOI, PMID, ISBN, or functional URL with access date.
Figures & Tables Research Letters may include no more than 2 tables or figures. Figures and tables must be placed within the text rather than at the end.
