Journal of Critical and Intensive Care (J Crit Intensive Care) is the scientific and official publication of the Society of Turkish Intensivists (STI). It is an international open access journal published three times a year and uses an independent, unbiased, double-blinded peer review process for manuscript evaluation. The journal is indexed in Web of Science – Emerging Sources Citation Index and TUBITAK ULAKBIM TR index, and its articles are available through Web of Science.

Original Article

Cover Letter A separate cover letter is required stating that the manuscript is original, not previously published, and not under consideration elsewhere; any use of AI-assisted technology must also be described in the cover letter.
Abstract A structured abstract is required (max 250 words) with the subheadings aim, study design, materials and methods, results, and conclusion.
Manuscript Original Articles must not exceed 4000 words and the main text must be structured into Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion (including a limitations section), and Conclusion.
References References follow a numbered Vancouver style cited in order of appearance, with specific formatting for journals and books, Index Medicus abbreviations for journal titles, and a maximum of 35 references.
Figures & Tables Tables must appear after the references (each on a separate page) and figures must be submitted as separate JPG or TIFF files; Original Articles may include a combined maximum of 6 tables and/or figures in total.

Review Article

Cover Letter A separate cover letter is required, stating that the manuscript is original, not previously published, and not under consideration elsewhere; any use of AI-assisted technology must also be described in the cover letter.
Abstract An unstructured abstract is required, with no subheadings and a maximum length of 250 words.
Manuscript Review articles must not exceed 5000 words, must include a title, author details and corresponding author contact information, use appropriate subheadings, and contain a Conclusion section summarizing the main inference in one or two sentences.
References References must follow a numbered Vancouver style (in order of appearance, cited in the text with Arabic numerals in brackets, journal titles abbreviated per Index Medicus, author listing rules applied); limit: 70 references.
Figures & Tables Tables, figures, and figure legends must follow the formatting rules for original research articles and are limited to a combined maximum of 6 tables and/or figures in total.

Case Report

Cover Letter A separate cover letter is required stating that the manuscript is original, not previously published, and not under consideration elsewhere, and must describe any use of AI-assisted technology.
Abstract An unstructured abstract (no subheadings) is required, with a maximum of 150 words for case reports and case series.
Manuscript Case reports must follow this structure: Introduction, Case(s), Discussion, and Conclusion, with a maximum of 1500 words including no more than 15 references and 2 tables and/or figures in total.
References References must be numbered in order of appearance using Arabic numerals in brackets, follow Index Medicus journal title abbreviations, list all authors if ≤3 or first 3 plus “et al.” if ≥4, and are limited to 15 references for case reports and case series.
Figures & Tables Case reports and case series may include a maximum of 2 tables and/or figures in total, prepared (including legends) according to the formatting rules for original research articles.

Editorial

Abstract Editorials do not require an abstract.
Manuscript Editorials are brief evaluations of published manuscripts written by an invited authority, may include subheadings, and must not exceed 500 words.
References References are numbered in order of appearance using a Vancouver-like style with Index Medicus journal abbreviations; list all authors if three or fewer, the first three plus “et al.” if four or more, and include full publication details. Limit: 10 references for editorials.
Figures & Tables Editorials must not include any tables or figures.

Letter to the Editor

References References must be prepared as for original research articles, numbered in order of appearance using Arabic numerals in brackets with Index Medicus journal abbreviations; maximum 5 references and unpublished data cited in text only as “name(s), unpublished data”.
