Journal of Intensive Care is an open access journal covering all aspects of intensive care medicine, including intensive and critical care, trauma and surgical intensive care, pediatric intensive care, acute and emergency medicine, perioperative medicine, resuscitation, infection control, and organ dysfunction. The journal encourages consideration of cultural aspects of intensive care practice and endorses preprint posting for primary research. It is the official journal of the Japanese Society of Intensive Care Medicine (JSICM).

Research

Cover Letter A cover letter is required and should include the total word count for the main text (Background, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions), the number of figures and tables, and for resubmissions the prior manuscript number and title.
Title Page Provide a title page that includes a design-indicative title when appropriate, full names and institutional addresses for all authors (with collaboration group details handled per instructions), and the corresponding author’s contact information.
Abstract An abstract of up to 350 words is required. It must be structured with Background, Methods, Results, Conclusions, and Trial registration; minimize abbreviations and do not include references. RCT abstracts should follow the CONSORT extension.
Main Manuscript Headings Organize the manuscript into the following sections: Background, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions and a List of abbreviations (define all abbreviations at first use).
Reference Format Format citations and references in Vancouver style. Cite web resources as numbered references with full title, URL, and access date; include dataset citations with persistent identifiers where applicable.
Figures The page does not specify figure placement; authors should prepare and submit figures according to the journal’s General formatting guidelines, ensuring appropriate numbering and quality.
