Original Article

Cover Letter Cover letter is required for first submissions and must be uploaded at the “Enter Comments” stage in EM. No specific mandatory content elements are specified.
Abstract Abstract is required and must be a semistructured five-paragraph summary (Background, Methods, Findings, Interpretation, Funding) of ≤250 words. For randomised trials, the abstract must follow CONSORT extensions.
Manuscript Main text word limit is up to 3500 words (up to 4500 for randomised controlled trials). Primary research must include a Research in Context panel, and all submitted research Articles must include a data sharing statement.
References Maximum of 30 references. Vancouver numbered style: cite sequentially as superscript numbers after punctuation; list all authors if ≤6, or first 3 then et al if ≥7.
Figures & Tables No maximum number of figures or tables is specified. First submissions must include figures and the manuscript including tables and panels; figures must be supplied as editable files.

Figures & Tables Reviews should include about five illustrations/tables/figures; if figures are annotated, supply both an annotated copy and a non-annotated editable copy, and for multi-part figures supply individual parts plus a combined version.

Meta-analysis
