Review Articles

Cover Letter Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract Review Articles must include an abstract. The abstract must be no more than 250 words. The abstract may be unstructured.
Manuscript The main text is encouraged to remain under 7,000 words. The main body should be presented in the sequence Introduction, Materials & Methods, Results, and Discussion. Three to six keywords should be provided at the end of the abstract page.
References Review Articles should include fewer than 200 references. References must conform to the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals. References must be numbered serially in the text using unparenthesized superscripts and listed in numerical order at the end, with all authors listed when there are six or fewer and the first six followed by "et al." when there are seven or more.
Figures & Tables Review Articles should have no more than 7 figures and tables in total. Tables should be provided on separate sheets and figures must be uploaded as separate files rather than embedded in the manuscript. Each table must be typed as a Word table with a title.

Original Articles

Cover Letter A cover letter is required. The cover letter must state the questions the authors aimed to answer, the main findings and significance of the study, why readers would be interested, and include the statements that all authors had full access to and the right to publish the data, all authors contributed to and approved the manuscript, no ghostwriting occurred, and all authors agreed to submit the manuscript.
Abstract A structured abstract is required. The abstract must be no more than 250 words. The abstract must be structured. The abstract must be organized under the headings Objective, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript The main text must be less than 4,000 words. The main text must be presented in the sequence Introduction, Materials & Methods, Results, and Discussion. Three to six keywords must be provided at the end of the abstract page, and the Materials & Methods section must state the Institutional Review Board study number.
References No more than 40 references are allowed. References must conform to the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals. References must be cited as unparenthesized superscript numbers in the text and listed in numerical order at the end, with all authors listed when there are six or fewer and the first six followed by "et al." when there are seven or more.
Figures & Tables No more than 7 figures and tables in total should be included. Brief Communications

Cover letter must state the study questions, main findings, significance, reader interest, that all authors had full data access and publication rights, that each author contributed and approved the manuscript, that no ghostwriting occurred, and that all authors agreed to submit the manuscript.
Abstract A structured abstract is required. Abstract must be no more than 150 words. Abstract must be structured. Abstract must use the headings Objective, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript Main text must be less than 1500 words. Main text must be presented in the sequence Introduction, Materials & Methods, Results, and Discussion. Three to six keywords must be provided at the end of the abstract page, and the Materials & Methods section must state the Institutional Review Board study number.
