Journal of Neurochemistry, owned by the International Society for Neurochemistry, publishes research covering all aspects of neurochemistry, including genetic, molecular, cellular, biochemical and behavioural aspects of the nervous system, with a focus on pathogenesis, biomarkers and treatment of neurological and psychiatric disorders. It prioritizes original research that mechanistically demonstrates an advance as well as critical reviews that highlight progression of knowledge in the field.

Cover Letter Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract Abstract is required. Abstract must not exceed 300 words. Abstract must be unstructured and written as a single paragraph of running text.
Manuscript Manuscript must include abstract, introduction, methods, results, conclusions, references, and supplements if applicable, and all methodology and data needed to replicate or interpret the main findings must be included in the main text. Manuscript must include an alphabetical list of abbreviations at the beginning, a CRediT author contributions section, a conflicts of interest statement, and a Data Availability Statement.
References References must use APA style. Unpublished experiments and papers in preparation and personal communications may be mentioned only in the text and not included in the reference list, and accepted papers not yet published must be cited as in press.
Figures & Tables Figures and tables may be included in the main text or submitted as separate files at initial submission. Figures and tables must have legends.

Manuscript Milestone Reviews should be between 7,000 and 10,000 words. Manuscript should include an abstract, an introduction, themed review sections, conclusions, and references. A graphical abstract and 3 to 5 keywords must be included.
References Reference list should contain no more than 150 references. References should use APA style. References may be submitted in any consistent style at initial submission, but unpublished work and personal communications must be cited only in the text and not included in the reference list.
