Research Articles

Cover Letter All authors of a multi-author manuscript must have seen and approved the submitted version.
Abstract Abstract is required. Abstract must not exceed 250 words, including citations. Abstract must be unstructured and written in complete sentences without subheadings.
Manuscript Research Articles are restricted to 650-word introductions and 1,500-word discussions. Research Articles must include Title Page, Abstract, Significance Statement, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, References, and Legends in that order, although theoretical neuroscience Research Articles may omit Materials and Methods and Experimental Design and Statistical Analysis if no experimental approaches were used. Manuscripts must include a Significance Statement of no more than 120 words, and use of AI in manuscript preparation must be disclosed in the Acknowledgments.
References References must be listed alphabetically by first-author surname, cited in chronological order when multiple citations appear in text, not numbered or bulleted, and works with more than 20 authors should be cited as Author A et al.
Figures & Tables Figure, table, and multimedia legends must be included in the main manuscript text after the reference list, while figures must be submitted as separate files. Figures and tables must be numbered independently and cited in numerical order in the text, and data must not be duplicated between the text and a figure or table.

Figures & Tables There is no limit to the number of figures or diagrams.
