Manuscript Original Research articles have no strict word limit. Manuscript must include a brief Introduction, sufficiently detailed Materials and Methods, Results, a Discussion restricted to issues directly relevant to the results, and a Significance Statement. Manuscript must include a Significance Statement of no more than 100 words, an Author Contributions section using the CRediT taxonomy, a completed Transparent Science Questionnaire uploaded as supplementary information, and a data accessibility statement confirming the presence or absence of shared data.
References References may be submitted in any clear and consistent generic style, and a Name-Year system is recommended.
Figures & Tables Original Research articles have no strict figure limit. Initial submission may include tables and figures in a single text file with figures embedded within the text, placed at the end of the manuscript, or uploaded as separate files. Registered Reports

Cover Letter Registered Reports Stage 1 submissions should include a brief cover letter, and Stage 2 resubmission cover letters are required to certify that all non-pilot data was collected after in-principle acceptance and to state the manuscript page listing the protocol URL. Cover letters must include a brief scientific case for consideration, confirmation that all necessary support and approvals are in place, an anticipated study timeline, agreement to register the approved protocol on OSF or another recognized repository after Stage 1 acceptance, certification that all non-pilot data was collected after in-principle acceptance, and the page number listing the protocol URL.
Abstract An abstract is required. Abstract must be 250 words or less. Abstract must be unstructured and written as a single continuous paragraph.
Manuscript Stage 1 manuscripts must include an Introduction and a complete Methods section written in future tense, while Stage 2 manuscripts must include the original Introduction and Methods plus the obtained Results and Discussion. A significance statement of no more than 100 words must be included in the main text, and final Stage 2 manuscripts must footnote and cite the Stage 1 article and include a link to the approved Stage 1 protocol.
References References may be submitted in any clear and consistent generic style, with a Name-Year system recommended. Final manuscripts must cite and appropriately reference the Stage 1 report.
Figures & Tables Initial submissions may include tables and figures in a single text file with figures embedded within the text, at the end of the manuscript, or as separate files. All figures and tables must be cited in the text and numbered in the order of first citation.
