The Journal of Orthopaedic Translation is the official peer-reviewed, open access journal of the Chinese Speaking Orthopaedic Society and the International Chinese Musculoskeletal Research Society. It focuses on orthopaedic translational research and publishes bimonthly original research and other article types that advance musculoskeletal health, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment, especially work connecting basic research with clinical or community application.

Original Articles

Cover Letter A cover letter is required. Cover letter must include the manuscript title, all authors’ names and affiliations, corresponding author contact details, a statement that the work has not been previously published or concurrently submitted elsewhere, disclosure of non-author contributors and similar manuscripts, and the corresponding author’s signature.
Abstract An abstract is required. Abstract must not exceed 500 words. Abstract must be structured. Abstract should use headings such as Background/Objective, Methods, Results, and Conclusion, and it must be followed by a statement under the heading 'The Translational Potential of this Article'.
Manuscript Manuscript must not exceed 10,000 words. Manuscript must be organized as Abstract, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Author Contribution, Acknowledgements if any, Funding/Support statement, Ethical Statement if any, Conflicts of interest, Declaration of generative AI in Scientific Writing, Data and materials availability if any, References, Figures and Tables if any, and Supplementary Material if any. Manuscript must include up to 6 keywords after the abstract and a declaration of generative AI use in a section immediately before the references if such tools were used.
References References must not exceed 80. References must use a numbered square-bracket style. References must be numbered in order of appearance, listed in the same order, include surnames and initials with article title, abbreviated journal name, year, volume, and inclusive pages, list all authors up to 6, and use the first 6 followed by 'et al' for 7 or more authors.
Figures & Tables Figures and tables must total no more than 10 combined. Each illustration must be submitted as a separate file, and figure captions must be provided separately. Tables must be submitted as editable text rather than images and figures should be limited to the minimum necessary to support the text.

Review Articles

Cover letter must include the manuscript title, all authors’ names and affiliations, corresponding author contact details, a statement that the manuscript has not been previously published or concurrently submitted elsewhere, disclosure of non-author contributors and similar manuscripts, and the corresponding author’s signature.
Abstract An abstract is required. Abstract must not exceed 500 words. Systematic reviews and meta-analyses require a structured abstract, whereas other review articles require an unstructured abstract with no subheadings. For systematic reviews and meta-analyses, the abstract must use the headings Background/Objective, Methods, Results, and Conclusion.
Manuscript Manuscript may be up to 10,000 words in length. Review articles must have a short pithy title and include a statement after the abstract under the heading 'The Translational Potential of this Article'. Immediately after the abstract, provide up to 6 keywords in alphabetical order, and if AI tools were used in manuscript preparation, add a declaration section immediately above the references titled 'Declaration of Generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in the writing process' that specifies the tool used and the reason for using it.
References Review articles must include no more than 200 references. Citations must be numbered in square brackets in order of appearance, consistent with Vancouver style. References must be listed in the order cited in the text, include surnames and initials, article title, abbreviated journal name, year, volume, and inclusive page numbers, list all authors up to 6 and for 7 or more list the first 6 followed by 'et al'.
Figures & Tables Review articles may include up to 8 figures and tables combined. Each illustration must be submitted as a separate file, and captions must be provided separately. Tables must be submitted as editable text rather than images and figures should be restricted to the minimum necessary to support the text.

Manuscript Letters to the Editor must be less than 1000 words. Articles must be divided into clearly defined sections with brief subsection headings on separate lines. If generative AI was used in manuscript preparation, include a declaration section immediately above the references stating the tool used and the reason for using it.
References Letters to the Editor must include no more than 10 references. References must be numbered consecutively in order of appearance using square brackets in the text, with the reference list in the same order and listing up to 6 authors in full or the first 6 followed by et al for 7 or more authors.
