The Journal of Pathology serves as a translational bridge between basic biomedical science and clinical medicine with particular emphasis on tissue-based studies. Published on behalf of the Pathological Society of Great Britain and Ireland, it publishes high-impact research that furthers understanding of the pathophysiological and pathogenetic mechanisms of human disease.

Original Articles

Cover Letter Cover letter is required. Cover letter must confirm that all authors have agreed with the submission in its present form.
Abstract Abstract is required. Abstract must not exceed 300 words. Abstract must be unstructured.
Manuscript Manuscript must be no more than 4000 words from the beginning of the Introduction to the end of the Discussion. Manuscript must be divided into the sections Abstract, Introduction, Methods, Results and Discussion. Manuscript must include 3 to 10 keywords or short phrases below the abstract.
References References must follow the journal's modified Vancouver format used by the NLM in Index Medicus. References must be numbered consecutively in the order first mentioned and cited in the text, tables, and legends using Arabic numerals in square parentheses.
Figures & Tables Original Articles may include up to 6 figures. Figures must be uploaded as separate files and must not be embedded within the text document. Legends for tables and figures must be included on a separate page in the main manuscript.

Review Article

Cover Letter Cover letter is required. Cover letter must state that the manuscript is original unpublished work, confirm all authors have agreed to the submission in its present form, and disclose any prior submissions or public posting of the manuscript.
Abstract Abstract is required. Abstract must be no more than 300 words. Abstract must be unstructured.
Manuscript Review Article submissions are usually no more than 4000 words. Review Article submissions must include a title and abstract. Manuscript must include 3 to 10 keywords or short phrases below the abstract.
References References must follow the journal's modified Vancouver format used by the NLM in Index Medicus. References must be numbered consecutively in order of first mention and cited using Arabic numerals in square brackets, with only the first 3 authors listed before et al. when there are more than 3 authors.
Figures & Tables For initial submission, figures and tables may be included in a single manuscript file or submitted as separate files. Figures and tables must have legends.

References must be numbered consecutively in order of first mention and cited in square brackets, and for works with more than 3 authors only the first 3 authors should be listed followed by et al.
