Original Article
Cover Letter
Any use of AI-assisted technology must be disclosed in the cover letter. Cover letter must disclose any use of AI-assisted technology.
Abstract
Original Articles must include a structured abstract. Abstract must be 300 words or fewer. Abstract must be structured. Abstract must use the headings Background, Objectives, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript
Main text must contain 3000 words or fewer. Manuscript must include a title page, key points, a graphical abstract, a Plain Language Summary placed immediately after the abstract, and follow a structured Original Article format. Manuscript must include three key point bullets under the headings 'Why was the study undertaken?', 'What does this study add?', and 'What are the implications of this study for disease understanding and/or clinical care?', 3–6 keywords including MeSH terms, a Plain Language Summary of 250 words or fewer, and disclosures of any AI use in the manuscript with writing assistance reported in the Acknowledgement section and data collection, analysis, or figure generation reported in the Methods section.

Citations must appear as consecutive unbracketed superscript numbers, references must be listed numerically, journal titles must use Medline abbreviations, and references with more than six authors must list the first six followed by 'et al.'.
Figures & Tables
There is no limit on visual elements. Tables and figures must be uploaded as separate files, and graphical abstracts must be uploaded separately labelled 'Graphical Abstract Image'. Figure legends must be listed numerically at the end of the main text, each table must have a descriptive title, each figure must have an independent legend, multi-panel figures must be labelled and uploaded as a single file, and the graphical abstract text must be editable and 50 words or fewer.
