Submission Instructions

Journal Of Virology is an invitation-only journal. Submissions are accepted by invitation from the editorial board only. The following article types are accepted:

Research Articles

Cover Letter Required at initial submission. The cover letter must explain the paper's scientific importance and interest to the journal's readers, and it must state when the submission is for ACT or, for expedited review of a previously reviewed non-ASM manuscript, declare the previous submission and request expedited review.
Abstract Required. Must not exceed 250 words, and the Importance section must not exceed 150 words. Structured. The abstract must include the headings "Abstract" and "Importance".
Manuscript Must include a Materials and Methods section. The title page must include the title, running title, author names and affiliations, corresponding author names and e-mail addresses, a present-address footnote if needed, and word counts for the abstract and text, and keywords, research areas, and preprint deposit information must be provided if applicable.
References Vancouver. References must be numbered in the order cited, all listed references must be cited in the text, all authors and/or editors must be listed without using et al., and journal names must be abbreviated according to the PubMed Journals Database.
Figures & Tables At initial submission, figures may be included in the manuscript text file or uploaded separately, and tables must be included in the manuscript file rather than uploaded separately. Figures and tables must be appropriate to the article's content, and figure legends must be clear and informative.

Minireviews

Cover Letter A cover letter is required. It should explain the paper's scientific importance and interest to the journal’s readers and state which Minireview Editor was contacted, if applicable.
Abstract An abstract is required. Abstract must not exceed 250 words.
Manuscript Minireviews are limited to 6,000 words, exclusive of references.
References References must be numbered in the order cited, include all authors and/or editors without using et al., and use PubMed Journal Database abbreviations for journal names.
Figures & Tables Figures may be included in the manuscript text file or uploaded separately at initial submission, and figures must be uploaded separately for revised manuscripts. Figures must be submitted as individual PDFs or a single combined PDF at initial submission, while revised manuscripts require separate editable high-resolution TIFF or EPS files.

Gems

Manuscript Gems are limited to 4,000 words, exclusive of references. Keywords and research areas must be provided if applicable.

Figures & Tables Gems should include 1 to 2 figures or tables. At initial submission, figures may be included in the manuscript text file or uploaded as separate files, and main text and tables must be submitted in a single combined PDF. Figures must be submitted with appropriate resolution and size.

Cover Letter A cover letter is required. The cover letter must explain the paper's scientific importance and its interest to the journal's readers, and for a Comment Letter on a published article it must state the article DOI, the article title, and the last name of the first author.
Abstract An abstract is not allowed.
Manuscript Letters may be no more than 500 words long, exclusive of references. Letters must have a title and list authors and affiliations below the title.
References Comment Letters must cite published references to support the author's argument, and references must be numbered in the order cited with all authors listed and no use of et al.
Figures & Tables Figures and tables in Letters should be kept to a minimum.
