Submission Instructions

Lancet Global Health accepts the following article types. Click on an article type to view submission instructions.

Articles

Cover Letter A covering letter is required for first submissions. The covering letter must explain why the paper should be published in The Lancet Global Health rather than elsewhere.
Abstract A semistructured abstract is required. The abstract must not exceed 250 words. The abstract must be semistructured in five paragraphs. The abstract must use the headings Background, Methods, Findings, Interpretation, and Funding.
Manuscript Articles must be up to 3500 words, or up to 4500 words for randomised controlled trials. Articles must include a research in context panel, and randomised trials must include a Methods section entitled “Randomisation and masking”. The manuscript must include a contributors statement identifying which authors directly accessed and verified the underlying individual-participant data, a separate AI declaration statement at the end of the manuscript if AI tools were used for manuscript preparation, and a data sharing statement at the end of the manuscript.
References Articles must have no more than 30 references. References must use Vancouver numbering style. References must be cited sequentially in the text as superscript numbers after punctuation, with up to six authors listed in full and seven or more reduced to the first three followed by et al.
Figures & Tables First submissions should include the manuscript including tables and panels and should include figures. When reporting Kaplan-Meier survival data, numbers at risk must be included at each timepoint.

Cover Letter First submissions should include a covering letter uploaded at the Enter Comments stage. The covering letter must explain why the paper should be published in The Lancet Global Health rather than elsewhere.
Abstract Reviews must include an abstract. The abstract must be an unstructured summary of no more than 150 words. The abstract must be unstructured.
Manuscript Reviews must be no more than 4500 words. Reviews should include a brief section entitled “Search strategy and selection criteria” that states the sources searched and the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The manuscript must include individual contributor statements at the end of the text, a Declaration of interests section, funding information, and a separate AI declaration statement at the end of the manuscript if AI tools were used for manuscript preparation.
References Reviews must have no more than 75 references. References must use Vancouver numbering style. References must be cited sequentially in the text as superscript numbers after punctuation, with up to six authors listed in full and seven or more authors shortened to the first three followed by et al.
