Lancet Healthy Longevity

The Lancet Healthy Longevity is a gold open-access, multi-disciplinary journal that publishes clinically-focussed longevity and healthy ageing research and review. Its remit spans early-stage clinical research into mechanisms of ageing, epidemiological and societal research on changing populations, clinical trials across disciplines focused but not exclusively on older people, gerontological science, age-specific clinical guidelines, and clinical and policy reviews intended to shape debate in the field.

Lancet Healthy Longevity accepts the following article types. Click on an article type to view submission instructions.

Article

Cover Letter A covering letter should be included with first submissions. The covering letter should explain why the paper should be published in The Lancet Healthy Longevity rather than elsewhere.
Abstract Articles must include a semistructured abstract. The abstract must not exceed 250 words, although Articles reporting randomised trials must include a structured summary of up to 300 words. The abstract must be semistructured. The abstract must contain the headings Background, Methods, Findings, Interpretation, and Funding.
Manuscript Articles should be up to 3500 words, or up to 4500 words for randomised controlled trials. Primary research Articles must include a Research in context panel, and randomised trial Articles must include a Randomisation and masking section in Methods plus a trial profile and a baseline characteristics table. Articles must include contributors and declaration of interests statements, a data sharing statement at the end of the manuscript, and a Research in context panel, and any use of generative AI in writing must be disclosed in the acknowledgments.
References Articles should have no more than 30 references. References must use Vancouver numbering style. References must be cited sequentially as superscript numbers after punctuation, with all six authors listed when there are six or fewer and the first three followed by et al when there are seven or more.
Figures & Tables Randomised trial Articles must include a trial profile and a table of baseline characteristics. Tables must be supplied in a separate Word document from the main text, while figures are included with first submissions and randomised trial figure files should be submitted as editable files. Kaplan-Meier plots in Articles must include numbers at risk at each timepoint, and in randomised trial Articles they must also include a measure of effect on the graph and must not break the y axis.

Review

Cover Letter A covering letter must be included with the first submission. The covering letter must explain why the paper should be published in The Lancet Healthy Longevity rather than elsewhere.
Abstract Reviews must include an abstract. The summary must be no more than 150 words. The summary must be unstructured.
Manuscript Reviews should be no more than 4500 words. Reviews must include a brief section entitled "Search strategy and selection criteria" that states the sources searched and the criteria for including or excluding studies. The manuscript must include authors' contributions, a "Declaration of interests" statement, funding information, and any AI-use disclosure at the end of the article, and the "Search strategy and selection criteria" section must not contain references.
References Reviews should have a maximum of 75 references. References must use Vancouver numbering style. References must be cited sequentially as superscript numbers after punctuation, list all authors when there are six or fewer, list the first three followed by et al when there are seven or more, and abbreviate journal names in Index Medicus form.
Figures & Tables Figures must be included with the first submission, and tables and panels must be included in the manuscript. Tables must be supplied in a separate Word document from the main text and figures must be provided in an editable file type unless they are photographs or MRI scans.
