Original Research Article

Cover Letter A cover letter is required. The cover letter must include the corresponding author's name and address, explicit assurance that each listed author meets the authorship requirements, and any approved request to extend the article to 4,000 words under exceptional circumstances.
Abstract A structured abstract is required. The abstract must not exceed 250 words. The abstract must be structured. The abstract must use headings such as Background, Objectives, Research Design, Subjects, Measures, Results, and Conclusions, and 3 to 5 keywords must appear at the end of the abstract.
Manuscript The manuscript must not exceed 3,500 words excluding abstract, acknowledgments, figures, tables, and references, unless editor-approved extension to 4,000 words has been granted. The manuscript text must be organized into Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion. The manuscript must include 3 to 5 keywords at the end of the abstract and disclose any use of AI tools in the Materials and Methods section or a similar section, including the tool used and how it was used.
References No more than 50 references are permitted. References must follow AMA style. References must be cited in the text in order of appearance, with more than 3 authors shortened to the first 3 followed by et al.
Figures & Tables No more than a total of 5 figures and tables may be included. Figures and tables must be uploaded separately rather than embedded in the manuscript, and appendices must be uploaded as supplemental online-only content. Figure legends must be provided on a separate manuscript page after the references.

Brief Report

References must be cited in the text in order of appearance, listed double spaced at the end of the manuscript, and if there are more than 3 authors only the first 3 should be named followed by et al.
Figures & Tables No more than a combined total of 5 tables and figures is permitted. Figures and tables must not be embedded in the manuscript and each must be uploaded as a separate file, with figure legends placed on a separate manuscript page after the references. Tables must be submitted as editable Word files rather than PDF or graphics files, and tables and figures must be cited consecutively in the text and numbered in that order.
