Research Articles

Cover Letter A cover letter must be uploaded as a separate file in the online submission system. For a systematic review or meta-analysis submitted as a Research Article, the cover letter must state this.
Abstract An abstract is required and must follow the title page in the manuscript file and also be entered in a separate field in the submission system. Abstract must not exceed 300 words.
Manuscript Research Articles typically use the headings Abstract, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusions. Research Articles must include a distinct 150–200 word non-technical Author Summary in the first-person voice immediately after the abstract, and AI contributions must be reported in a dedicated Methods section or in Acknowledgements if no Methods section is present.
References References must use Vancouver style. References must be listed at the end of the manuscript, numbered in citation order, cited in the text with square-bracketed numbers, and list the first six authors followed by et al.
Figures & Tables Tables must be placed directly after the paragraph where first cited and not submitted separately, while figures may be included in the main manuscript file at initial submission. Figure captions must appear in the manuscript immediately after first citation, and tables must include a label and brief descriptive title above with legends or footnotes below.

Reviews

Cover Letter A cover letter must be uploaded as a separate file in the online system.
Abstract An abstract is required and must follow the title page in the manuscript file. Abstract must not exceed 300 words.
Manuscript Reviews should be around 4,000 words. Reviews should include an introduction summarizing the topic’s background and purpose of the review, discussion of implications to the field and recommendations based on evidence presented where possible, and a conclusion succinctly outlining key points. The manuscript must include an Author Summary and must report any AI tool contributions in a dedicated Methods section or in the Acknowledgements if there is no Methods section.
References Reviews have a suggested limit of 100 references. References must use Vancouver style. References must be listed at the end of the manuscript, numbered in the order they appear in the text, cited in square brackets, and list the first six authors followed by et al.
Figures & Tables Reviews have a recommended 5 figures. Tables must be placed directly after the paragraph where first cited, and figures may be included in the main manuscript file at initial submission. Figure captions must be inserted immediately following the paragraph where each figure is first cited, and tables must include a label and brief descriptive title above with legends or footnotes below.

Manuscript Opinions should be no more than 1,000 words. A figure is encouraged, and any use of AI tools must be disclosed in a dedicated section of the Methods or in the Acknowledgements for article types lacking a Methods section.
References Opinions have a suggested maximum of 15 references. References must use Vancouver style. References must be listed at the end of the manuscript, numbered in order of appearance, cited in square brackets, and list the first six authors followed by et al.
Figures & Tables One figure is encouraged for Opinions. Figures may be included in the main manuscript file at initial submission, and tables must be placed directly after the paragraph in which they are first cited. Figure captions must follow the paragraph of first citation, and tables must include a label and brief descriptive title above with legends or footnotes below.
