The Lancet Regional Health - Europe accepts the following article types. Click on an article type to view submission instructions.
Article
Cover Letter
A covering letter should be included with the first submission.
Abstract
Articles must include an abstract. Abstract must not exceed 250 words. Abstract must be a semistructured summary in five paragraphs. Abstract must include the headings Background, Methods, Findings, Interpretation, and Funding.
Manuscript
Articles should be around 3500–5000 words. Manuscript must include a Research in context panel containing Evidence before this study, Added value of this study, and Implications of all the available evidence. Manuscript must include declaration of interests and source of funding statements, a Contributors section, an AI use disclosure statement in the acknowledgments if applicable, and a data sharing statement at the end of the manuscript.
References
Articles should have 30 references. References must use Vancouver style. References must be cited sequentially in the text as superscript numbers after punctuation, with journal titles abbreviated in Index Medicus style and author lists giving all authors if six or fewer or the first three followed by et al if seven or more.
Figures & Tables
First submissions should include the manuscript including tables and panels, and figures should be included with the submission. Research in context panels must not contain references.
Review
Cover Letter
A covering letter must be included with the first submission.
Abstract
Reviews must include an abstract in the form of a 150-word unstructured summary. The abstract must not exceed 150 words. The abstract must be unstructured.
Manuscript
Reviews should be no more than 4500 words. The manuscript must include a brief section entitled 'Search strategy and selection criteria' that states the sources of the material covered and the criteria used to include or exclude studies. The manuscript must include declaration of interests and funding statements at the end of the text, contributor information, and an AI-use disclosure statement in the acknowledgments plus methods details if AI was used in developing the review.
References
Reviews should have a maximum of 75 references. References must use Vancouver numbering style. References must be cited sequentially as superscript numbers after punctuation, list all authors if there are six or fewer, list the first three followed by et al if there are seven or more, and abbreviate journal names in Index Medicus style.
Figures & Tables
Reviews may use up to 5–6 illustrations. The first submission must include the manuscript including tables and panels and must also include figures.

Correspondence responding to a previous publication must be no longer than 250 words, while correspondence of general interest unlinked to items published in the journal can be up to 400 words. Correspondence should be written in response to previous content published in the journal, and responses to a previous publication must reach the journal within 4 weeks of the original item's publication. Required forms must be uploaded at submission, and the manuscript must include contributors at the end of the text plus declaration of interests, funding, and any AI-use disclosure statements at the end of the article.

How long does it take to publish?
Papers are aimed to be published online in 2–3 weeks from acceptance. Receipt of a submission is acknowledged by email, and in-house editorial decisions are communicated quickly. Research papers that proceed are peer reviewed by at least two reviewers and a statistician.
