Original Research

Cover Letter A cover letter is required. The cover letter must state that the material has not been published or submitted elsewhere, explain how the paper relates to methods research in clinical epidemiology, include a preprint link if applicable, and include a reprint or manuscript for any preliminary publication other than an abstract of 400 words or fewer.
Abstract An abstract is required. The abstract must not exceed 350 words. The abstract must be structured. The abstract must use Introduction or background, Methods, Results, and Discussion headings, with the objective in Introduction or background and the conclusion in Discussion.
Manuscript Original Research articles must not exceed 3,000 words. Articles must be divided into clearly defined and numbered sections, and the abstract must not be included within the section numbering. The manuscript must include 1 to 7 keywords, article highlights of 3 to 5 bullet points, a 'What is new' box of up to 5 points below the abstract, and an AI use declaration section before the references if generative AI was used in manuscript preparation.
References Original Research articles must not exceed 100 references. References must be cited using numbered superscript Arabic numerals in order of appearance. The reference list must be numbered in citation order and include applicable bibliographic details, with journal names abbreviated according to LTWA.
Figures & Tables Original Research articles must not exceed 5 figures and 5 tables. Tables must be placed next to the relevant text or on separate pages at the end of the article, and figures must be supplied as separate files. Tables must be submitted as editable text rather than images and both tables and figures must be cited in the text, numbered consecutively, and accompanied by captions.
