Naunyn-Schmiedeberg's Archives of Pharmacology is a dedicated platform for new and significant information on drug action and toxicity of chemical compounds. It covers all fields of experimental and clinical pharmacology as well as toxicology, is the official journal of the German Society of Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology (DGPT), includes studies in neuropharmacology and cardiovascular pharmacology as well as drug actions at the cellular, biochemical and molecular levels, and publishes reviews, original articles, short communications, and meeting reports.

Full Papers

Cover Letter A cover letter is required and must be entered in the Comments textbox during submission. The cover letter must mention any unpublished material included in the manuscript.
Abstract An abstract is required. The abstract must be 150 to 250 words. The abstract must be structured. The abstract must use the headings Purpose, Methods, Results, and Conclusion.
Manuscript The manuscript must include a Declarations or Statements and Declarations section in addition to standard title page content. The manuscript must include 4 to 6 keywords, a Funding statement, a Competing Interests statement, author contribution descriptions, and the statement 'The authors declare that all data were generated in-house, that no paper mill was used and that no AI tool has been used for the generation of text or figures.' in the Authors Contributions section.
References References must be cited in the text by name and year. The reference list must include only cited published or accepted works, be alphabetized by the last name of the first author, and include DOI links and PMID where available.
Figures & Tables Figures should be submitted within the body of the text unless file size causes upload problems, and figure captions must be included in the manuscript text file rather than in the figure files. Tables and figures must be numbered with Arabic numerals and cited in consecutive numerical order, each table must have a caption, and each figure must have a concise caption.

Reviews

Cover Letter A cover letter is required for Review articles and must be entered in the submission comments textbox. The cover letter must state the review’s relevance for the NSAP readership, describe its originality and timeliness, summarize the authors’ expertise and track record, and list 3 representative publications related to the review content.
Abstract A structured abstract is required for Review articles. The abstract must not exceed 350 words. The abstract must be structured. The abstract must use the headings Introduction, Aim, Method, Results, and Conclusion.
Manuscript The main text must not exceed 3000 words. Review articles must be organized as Introduction, Aim, Method, Results, Conclusion, Declarations, and References. Manuscript The main text should not exceed 15–20 printed pages. Research articles must be organized as Introduction, Aim, Method, Ethics approval, Results, Discussion, Conclusion, Declarations, and References. The manuscript must include a disclosure statement and a Declarations section, and if applicable the discussion should contain a mechanistic figure illustrating the main hypothesis tested.
References References must be cited in the text by name and year in parentheses. The reference list must include only cited published or accepted works, be alphabetized by the first author's last name, and include full DOI links and PMID where available.
Figures & Tables Research articles must contain no more than 15 display items in the main text and papers with no more than 4 display items will not be considered as Research articles. Figures should be submitted within the body of the text unless file size causes upload problems, and additional data should be presented as electronic supplement.
