Nutrients is an international, peer-reviewed, open access journal of human nutrition published semimonthly online by MDPI. It is affiliated with the Asia Pacific Nutrigenomics Nutrigenetics Organisation, the Italian Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, the Nutrition Society of New Zealand, the Ocular Wellness & Nutrition Society, and others.

Nutrients accepts the following article types. Click on an article type to view submission instructions.

Article

Cover Letter A cover letter is required with each submission. Cover letter must explain the paper’s significance and fit to the journal, acknowledge any prior submissions to MDPI journals, and include the statements that the manuscript is not under consideration or published elsewhere and that all authors approved the manuscript and agree to its submission.
Abstract An abstract is required. Structured abstract should be around 250 words. Abstract must be structured. Abstract must use the headings Background/Objectives, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript Research manuscripts must include front matter with Title, Author list, Affiliations, Abstract, and Keywords, the main sections Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, and optional Conclusions, and back matter with Supplementary Materials, Author Contributions, Funding, Data Availability Statement, Acknowledgments, Conflicts of Interest, and References. Manuscript must include 3 to 10 keywords after the abstract, an author contributions statement, a conflicts of interest section, and disclosures of generative AI use in the Materials and Methods and Acknowledgments sections when applicable.
References References may be in any style at submission if used consistently throughout. References must include author name or names, journal or book title, article or chapter title where required, year of publication, volume and issue where appropriate, and pagination.
Figures & Tables Graphics in Microsoft Word manuscripts should be inserted in the main text after the paragraph of first citation. Figures, schemes, and tables must be numbered in order of appearance and all must have a short explanatory title and caption, and tables must be editable rather than supplied as images.

Review

Cover Letter A cover letter is required with the submission. Cover letter must explain the paper's significance and fit to the journal, acknowledge any prior submission to MDPI journals, and include statements that the manuscript is not under consideration or published elsewhere and that all authors approved the manuscript and its submission to Nutrients.
Abstract An abstract is required as part of the front matter. Abstract can be up to 200 words long. Abstract should follow a structured IMRAD-style format without headings and be presented as one paragraph.
Manuscript Review manuscripts must include front matter with Title, Author list, Affiliations, Abstract, and Keywords, a logically organized literature review with sections and optional subsections, and back matter with Author Contributions, Acknowledgments, Conflicts of Interest, and References, while systematic reviews and meta-analyses should use the same structure as research articles. The manuscript must include 3 to 10 keywords, an author contributions statement, a review-specific statement identifying who conceived the work, who performed the literature search and/or data analysis, and who drafted and revised it, and disclosure of any generative AI use in the manuscript.
References References may be submitted in any citation style if used consistently throughout the manuscript. References must include the author name or names, journal or book title, article or chapter title where required, year of publication, volume and issue where appropriate, and pagination.
