Perspectives On Medical Education accepts the following article types. Click on an article type to view submission instructions.

Original Research

Cover Letter A cover letter is required only for Take Two submissions of Original Research, which must declare that the manuscript is being submitted as Take Two. For Take Two submissions, the cover letter must state that the manuscript is a Take Two submission.
Abstract Original Research manuscripts must include an abstract. The abstract must not exceed 250 words. The abstract must be structured. The abstract must use the headings Introduction, Methods, Results and Discussion.
Manuscript Original Research manuscripts are generally limited to 4000 words, including references and citations. Original Research manuscripts should generally follow the IMRaD structure. Any material use of generative AI in an empirical paper must be disclosed in the Methods section, naming the specific tool and version, the tasks performed, the extent of use, how outputs were verified, and affirming author responsibility for the content.
References Original Research manuscripts should generally include no more than 50 references. References must use a numbered citation style with sequential in-text citations in square brackets and a numerically ordered reference list. References cited in the text must be listed at the end of the main text file in numerical order, reusing the original number for repeat citations and including DOIs where possible.
Figures & Tables Original Research manuscripts may include no more than 3 tables and/or figures in total. Tables should be included in the manuscript, while figures should be uploaded separately as supplementary files during submission if possible. Figures and tables must be cited in the main text in consecutive Arabic numeral order, and each must have a descriptive title.

References References are limited to a maximum of 20. References must use a numbered Vancouver-style citation system with sequential numbers in square brackets. References must be cited in the text with sequential numbers in square brackets and listed at the end of the text file in numerical order, with DOIs included where possible.
Figures & Tables A maximum of 2 figures and/or tables may be included. Tables should be included in the manuscript, while figures should be uploaded separately as supplementary files if possible and their titles, legends, and alt text placed within the text document. Figures and tables must be cited in consecutive Arabic numeral order and each must have a descriptive title, with figure alt text also required.

Manuscript should follow IMRaD structure and include why the study was replicated, any deviations from the original methods, what the outcomes were, and a critical reflection on differences between the original study and the replication study. Any generative AI use that materially shaped the research or manuscript must be disclosed by naming the tool and version, describing the tasks and extent of use, explaining how outputs were verified, and affirming author responsibility, with the disclosure placed in the Methods section for empirical papers or in the Acknowledgement section or a standalone Declaration of AI Use for non-research papers without a Methods section.
References References must be cited in the text using sequential numbers in square brackets and listed at the end of the text file in numerical order, with DOIs included where possible.
Figures & Tables A maximum combined total of 5 figures and tables is permitted. Figures should be uploaded separately as supplementary files during submission if possible, while tables should be included in the manuscript. Figures must be cited in consecutive Arabic numeral order and include a descriptive title and alt text, and tables must be cited in consecutive Arabic numeral order and include a descriptive title placed above the table.
