Psychology and Aging

Psychology and Aging publishes original articles that significantly advance knowledge about human aging and adult development in diverse contexts and populations. The journal focuses primarily on novel empirical findings that inform theories in the psychological science of aging and adult development, while also welcoming strong theoretical analyses, systematic reviews, methodological critiques, new methodological approaches, and policy recommendations grounded in psychological science. It publishes regular articles and brief reports.

Articles

Cover Letter A cover letter is required. Cover letter must include author names and affiliations, a copy-pasted Editorial Submission Checklist, a data transparency statement and/or table, and identifying information needed by the editorial team.
Abstract An abstract is required. Abstract must not exceed 250 words. Abstract structure is not explicitly specified. Abstract must describe the objectives, participants, methods, findings, and conclusions.
Manuscript Articles do not typically exceed 8,000 words, excluding references, tables, and figures. Manuscript must include a title page followed by a separate abstract page, a separate Public Significance Statement page, a separate keywords page, and a Method section that includes a "Transparency and openness" subsection. Manuscript must include a Public Significance Statement of 30 to 70 words, up to five keywords or brief phrases, disclosure of any generative AI use in the manuscript, and the required transparency and openness disclosures.
References References must follow APA 7th edition style. References must be listed in alphabetical order, and every reference listed must be cited in the text and every text citation must appear in the references section.
Figures & Tables Multipanel figures must be assembled into one file, alternative wording must be added as needed so figures are understandable in color and black-and-white formats, and tables must be created using Word's insert table function.
