Reviews

Cover Letter Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract An abstract is required. Abstract must be 200 words. Abstract must be unstructured.
Manuscript Manuscript must not exceed 4,500 words excluding abstract, figure legends and references. Manuscript must include a word count and up to five keywords listed in alphabetical order.
References Reviews may include up to 100 references. References must use the Vancouver system. References must be numbered in citation order, listed numerically at the end, use Index Medicus journal abbreviations, list all authors when there are six or fewer, and list the first three authors followed by et al when there are seven or more.
Figures & Tables Reviews may include up to 10 figures and/or tables in total. Figures and tables must be uploaded as separate files.

Original Articles

Cover Letter A cover letter is required only if the submission exceeds the word, figure/table, or reference limits. The cover letter must explain the reasons for exceeding the length, figure/table, or reference limits.
Abstract A structured abstract is required. Abstract must be 250 words. Abstract must be structured. Abstract must include the headings Background, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript Manuscript must not exceed 3,500 words excluding the abstract, figure legends, and references. Manuscript must include a title of less than 100 characters, a short title of less than 50 characters, and a word count. Manuscript may include up to five keywords listed in alphabetical order.
References References may not exceed 50. References must use Vancouver style. References must be numbered in numerical order, use superscript citation numbers in the text, abbreviate journal titles according to Index Medicus, list all authors when there are six or fewer, and list the first three authors followed by et al. when there are seven or more.
Figures & Tables Original Articles may include up to six figures and/or tables in total. Figures and tables must be uploaded as separate files.

Letters To The Editor

Cover Letter Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract A separate abstract must not be included.
Manuscript Letters to the Editor must not exceed 600 words excluding abstract, figure legends and references. Letters to the Editor must begin with the salutation 'To the Editor', must not include other divisions in the text, and must end with a conclusion paragraph summarizing the letter. Letters to the Editor must include a word count and list author names, affiliations, funding sources, and conflicts of interests at the end following references.
References Letters to the Editor may include up to nine references. References must use the Vancouver system. References must be cited with superscript numbers in text punctuation order and listed numerically at the end, with journal titles abbreviated in Index Medicus style and author lists giving all authors if six or fewer or the first three followed by et al. if seven or more.
Figures & Tables Letters to the Editor may include only one display item, either a figure or a table. Figures and tables must be uploaded as separate files. The legend for the single display item must not exceed 100 words.
