The Southern African Journal of Infectious Diseases publishes topics on all aspects of infectious diseases, particularly those of importance to the FIDSSA societies. Topics include clinical and epidemiological aspects of communicable diseases, laboratory diagnosis of infections, characterisation of infective agents by molecular techniques, and the study of transmission patterns of pathogens in institutional and community settings.

Original Research Article

Cover Letter A cover letter is required as part of the submission.
Abstract An abstract is required. Abstract must not exceed 250 words. Abstract must be structured. Abstract must use the headings Background, Objectives, Method, Results, Conclusion, and Contribution.
Manuscript Manuscript must not exceed 3500 words, excluding the abstract, tables, figures, graphs, and references. Manuscript must include an introduction, a Research methods and design section, results, discussion, a brief conclusion, an Acknowledgements section after the Conclusions section, and the sections Competing interests, Author contributions, Funding, Data availability, and Disclaimer under their own headings. Manuscript must include eight keywords and provide Competing interests, Author contributions, Funding, Data availability, and Disclaimer statements under their own subheadings.
References Manuscript must include 60 or fewer references. References must follow Vancouver style. Reference list entries must include accurate DOIs where applicable.
Figures & Tables Manuscript must include no more than 7 tables, figures, and graphs in total. Tables, figures, and graphs must adhere to the illustrations requirements in the AOSIS house style guide.
