Original Research Articles

Cover Letter A cover letter is required for Original Research Articles. The cover letter must explain why the manuscript should be published, address any journal policy issues, declare potential competing interests, confirm all authors approved submission, and confirm the manuscript has not been published or submitted elsewhere.
Abstract An abstract is required for Original Research Articles. The abstract must not exceed 350 words. The abstract must be structured. The abstract must include the headings Background, Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript The manuscript must include Background, Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusions sections. The manuscript must include a Key Points section after the abstract with approximately three short stand-alone statements, three to ten keywords, a disclosure statement, a list of abbreviations if abbreviations are used, and a Declarations section that includes Competing interests, Funding, Authors' contributions, Acknowledgements, and Authors' information if applicable.
References References must use Vancouver style. Only published or publicly available articles, clinical trial registration records, and abstracts may be cited, unpublished abstracts, unpublished data, and personal communications must not appear in the reference list, journal abbreviations must follow Index Medicus/MEDLINE, and web links must be numbered and included in the reference list with full title, URL, and access date.
Figures & Tables Individual figure files must not exceed 10 MB, and additional files must not exceed 20 MB each. Figure titles and legends must be provided in the main manuscript, tables must be included in the main manuscript file, and larger datasets or oversized tables may be uploaded as additional files cited in sequence in the text. Multi-panel figures must be submitted as a single composite file, figures and tables must be numbered in text order, figure titles must not exceed 15 words, figure and table legends must not exceed 300 words, and tables must not be submitted as figures.

Multi-panel figures must be submitted as a single composite file, individual figure files must not exceed 10 MB, figure titles must not exceed 15 words, figure and table legends must not exceed 300 words, and table titles must not exceed 15 words.

Web links and URLs must be assigned a reference number and included in the reference list in full with the site title, URL, and access date, unpublished abstracts/data/personal communications must be excluded from the reference list, and publicly available datasets relied on by the paper must be cited with persistent identifiers such as DOI full URLs.
Figures & Tables Individual figure files must not exceed 10 MB, table titles must not exceed 15 words, table legends must not exceed 300 words, and additional files must not exceed 20 MB each.
