Submission Instructions

Vascular Medicine accepts the following article types. Click on an article type to view submission instructions.

Original Research

Cover Letter A cover letter is required. The cover letter must include conflict of interest information, a statement confirming all authors meet authorship requirements, corresponding author contact information, and any third-party writing/editing assistance or non-author submission on behalf of the authors.
Abstract A structured abstract is required. The abstract must be no longer than 250 words. The abstract must be structured as a single paragraph with headings. The abstract must include the headings introduction or background, methods, results, and conclusion, with a clinical trial registration number or PROSPERO ID added at the end if applicable.
Manuscript Original Research articles should be approximately 2000-4000 words total, inclusive of the entire main document. The main document must include, in order, the title page, abstract and keywords, main text, acknowledgments, disclosures, references, tables, and figure legends. The manuscript must include 3-5 keywords, use AI-assisted technology disclosures in the acknowledgements, and include a 'Statements and Declarations' section with relevant subheadings after the Acknowledgements section.
References References must follow Sage Vancouver style. References must be numbered in order of citation, list the first three authors followed by 'et al.' when there are more than four authors, and include complete bibliographic details with PubMed journal abbreviations where applicable.
Figures & Tables Tables must follow the references in the manuscript, figure legends must appear at the very end of the manuscript, figures must be placed at the end of the manuscript and not embedded in the main text, and separately created figure files must be uploaded separately. Tables must be editable and numbered in order, and figures and tables must be called out in numerical order with legends or footnotes defining abbreviations, symbols, and units.

Review Articles

Cover Letter A cover letter is required. The cover letter must include conflict of interest disclosure, confirmation that authorship requirements have been met by all authors, and the corresponding author's contact information.
Abstract An abstract is required. The abstract must be unstructured as a single summary paragraph with no subheadings.
Manuscript Review Articles should be approximately 4000–7000 words total, inclusive of the entire main document. The main document must include the title page, abstract and keywords, main text, acknowledgments, disclosures, references, tables, and figure legends in that order. Review Articles must include 3–5 keywords, at least 1 summary table or figure, use at least two terms from the VMJ Core Keyword List, disclose AI-assisted technologies in the acknowledgements, and include a 'Statements and Declarations' section with relevant subheadings.
References References must follow Sage Vancouver style. References must be numbered in order of citation and list the first three authors followed by 'et al.' when there are more than four authors.
Figures & Tables Review Articles must include at least 1 summary table or figure. Tables must immediately follow the references, and figures must be placed at the end of the manuscript and not embedded within the main text. Figures created outside Word must be submitted separately, and each table and figure must be numbered and called out in numerical order.

Research Letters

Cover Letter A cover letter is required. The cover letter must include statements on redundant or similar prior submissions or reports, conflicts of interest, authorship confirmation by all authors, and corresponding author contact information.
Abstract Research Letters must not include an abstract.
Manuscript Research Letters should be approximately 500-800 words inclusive of the entire main document. Research Letters must not include headings or subheadings. Research Letters must not include keywords, and use of AI-assisted technologies must be disclosed in the acknowledgements section.
References Research Letters may include up to 10 references. References must follow Sage Vancouver style. References must be numbered in order of citation and list the first three authors followed by "et al." when there are more than four authors.
Figures & Tables Research Letters may include one table or figure, plus one additional table or figure as supplemental material for online publication only. Figures must be placed at the end of the manuscript and not embedded within the main text, and supplemental material must be uploaded in a separate file. Tables must follow the references, and figure legends must be listed on a separate page at the very end of the manuscript.

Case Reports

References Case Reports may include a maximum of 10 references. References must follow Sage Vancouver style. References must be numbered in order of citation, include complete bibliographic details, and list only the first three authors followed by "et al." when there are more than four authors.
Figures & Tables Case Reports may include a maximum of four images with no more than four panels per image. Figures must be placed at the end of the manuscript and not embedded within the main text, and artwork files must be supplied separately. Each figure must be numbered and cited in numerical order, with legends provided on a separate page at the end of the manuscript.

Letter To The Editor

Abstract Abstract requirements are not specified.
Manuscript Letter To The Editor submissions should be 250-400 words. Letters regarding an article published in the journal must include an appropriate citation and should clearly state a question or comment for the authors to address in a formal response. Letter To The Editor submissions should include at least three keywords, and at least two of these must be selected from the VMJ Core Keyword List.
References References must follow Sage Vancouver style. References must be numbered in order of citation and list the first three authors followed by "et al." when there are more than four authors.
Figures & Tables Tables must follow the references and figures must be placed at the end of the manuscript rather than embedded in the main text.
