Research

Cover Letter A cover letter is required. It must explain why the manuscript should be published, describe any journal policy issues, declare competing interests, confirm all authors have approved submission, confirm the manuscript has not been published or submitted elsewhere, and name a special issue if applicable.
Abstract An abstract is required. The abstract must not exceed 350 words. Structured. Background, Methods, Results, Conclusions, and Trial registration.
Manuscript Research articles should present original primary research and include the section headings Background, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, List of abbreviations, Declarations, Footnotes, and References. Three to ten keywords are required, a Declarations section must include Ethics approval and consent to participate, Consent for publication, Availability of data and materials, Competing interests, Funding, Authors' contributions, Acknowledgements, and Authors' information if applicable, and use of a large language model must be documented.
References Vancouver. References must be listed in Vancouver style, and publicly available data, datasets, URLs, and previously published material should be fully referenced with accession numbers or unique identifiers where applicable.
Figures & Tables Figures and tables may be uploaded separately, with figures numbered in order of first mention and tables numbered and cited sequentially in the text. Figures and tables must follow the journal's file and presentation rules, including figure legends in the manuscript, table titles above tables, and no color or shading in tables.

Review

Abstract An abstract is required. The abstract must not exceed 350 words. The abstract must be structured. The abstract must include background, main body, and a short conclusion.
Manuscript The manuscript must include a Background section, a Main text section, and a Conclusions section, and reviews should summarize recent insights in a specific research area within the scope of Virology Journal. Three to ten keywords are required, a Declarations section is required, and if abbreviations are used they must be listed and defined at first use.
References Vancouver. References must be numbered in the order cited, only published or in-press articles and public e-print or preprint abstracts may be cited, unpublished abstracts, unpublished data, and personal communications must not be listed, and publicly available datasets should be cited with the minimum DataCite information and any web links or URLs must be included in the reference list with full site details and access date.
Figures & Tables Figures and tables should be numbered and cited in sequence, with figures uploaded separately in the correct order and tables placed in the manuscript or at the end of the text file depending on length. Figure titles must not exceed 15 words, figure legends must not exceed 300 words, multi-panel figures must be submitted as a single composite file, and tables must use the Table object function with no color or shading.

Case Report

Figures & Tables Figures and tables are submitted separately from the main manuscript when applicable, with titles and legends provided in the manuscript for figures. Figure titles must not exceed 15 words, figure legends must not exceed 300 words, figures and tables must be numbered in sequence, and clinical photographs require written consent to publish.

Figures & Tables Figures and tables should be included in the manuscript according to their first mention, with large tables placed at the end of the text file if necessary. Figures and tables must be numbered in sequence, figure titles and legends must be provided in the manuscript, and tables must use Arabic numerals with table titles above the table.
