Article

Cover Letter A cover letter must accompany the submission. The cover letter must explain why the manuscript is appropriate for ACS Applied Bio Materials, indicate the application described, describe any Supporting Information or Review-Only Material, and notify the Editor if essential crystal structure data accompany the manuscript.
Abstract An abstract is required for an Article. The abstract must be limited to 300 words. The abstract should be unstructured and summarize the significant results and conclusions.
Manuscript The paper must include a separate Introduction section, and initial submissions must use clearly identified standard sections for reporting original research. The manuscript must include a graphical summary for the table of contents, disclose any use of AI tools in the manuscript, and include safety information in the Experimental Section.
References Literature documentation should be selective rather than exhaustive, particularly when reviews can be cited.
Figures & Tables Figures should be embedded in the text at the point of relevance, and for crystallographic structure reports only data and graphics integral to the discussion should be included in the manuscript file. Each figure and table must have a caption or title understandable without reference to the text.

The cover letter must explain why the manuscript is appropriate for ACS Applied Bio Materials, indicate the application described, describe any Supporting Information or Review-Only Material, and notify the Editor if essential structural data accompanies the manuscript.
Abstract A brief abstract is required for Letters. The abstract must be less than 100 words. The abstract structure type is not specified.
Manuscript Letters are limited to 2500 words or the equivalent of 8 double-spaced word-processed pages of text and 3–4 figures. Letters must flow continuously without separate subsections through introductory material, an outline of the experiment, results, and concluding remarks, and the Introduction must not appear as a separate section. A graphical summary for the table of contents must be included, AI tool use must be disclosed in the manuscript, and safety information must be included in the main text.
References Letters must include no more than 30 references. References may be provided in any style for initial submission, but they must be complete and include titles.
Figures & Tables Letters are limited to 3–4 figures. Figures should be embedded in the text at the point of relevance. Each figure and table must have a caption or title that is understandable without reference to the text.

Special Issue Article

Cover Letter A cover letter is required for Special Issue Article submissions. The cover letter must explain why the manuscript is appropriate for ACS Applied Bio Materials and what application is described, describe any Supporting Information or Review-Only Material, and note that the manuscript was invited as part of a special issue.
Abstract Abstract should typically be 150–300 words maximum.

Revised manuscripts not received within 21 days are considered withdrawn. Appeals should be submitted within 1 month of receiving a decision. Galley proofs should be returned within 48 hours. Accepted manuscripts are published online as soon as page proofs are corrected and author concerns are resolved. ASAP publication usually occurs within a few working days of receipt of page proof corrections and can be several weeks before the issue cover date.
