Archives of Medical Research is the official publication of the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS) and publishes original peer-reviewed medical research aimed at bridging gaps created by medical specialization. Contributions are grouped into biomedical, clinical, and epidemiological categories, and the journal also considers review articles and preliminary communications. It presents disease-focused research from molecular biology to clinical epidemiology within a single international publication.

Original Articles

Cover Letter An Author Letter Agreement signed by all authors must be submitted with the manuscript. The Author Letter Agreement must include the manuscript title, publication and exclusivity statement, permissions statement if applicable, each author's contribution and contact details, conflict disclosures, final approval statement, and a declaration of responsibility for the work's integrity and accuracy.
Abstract Original Articles must include an abstract. Abstract must not exceed 250 words. Abstract must be structured. Abstract headings must be Background, Aims, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript Main text must include an introduction ending with the aim of the study, materials and method, results, discussion and conclusions, declaration of conflicts of interest, acknowledgments, and references. Original Articles must include four to six keywords or short phrases, and any use of generative AI in manuscript preparation must be disclosed at the end of the manuscript before the references.
References Citations must be numbered in parentheses in the text, the reference list must be numbered in order of appearance, and references with up to 3 authors list all authors while those with more than 3 list the first 3 followed by et al.
Figures & Tables Tables must appear in the anonymized manuscript, while figures, images, diagrams, and other artwork must be uploaded as separate files. Tables must be editable text with captions and citations in the text, and figures must be separately numbered, cited in the text, and accompanied by captions.

Review Articles

Cover Letter An Author Letter Agreement signed by all authors must be provided with the submission. The Author Letter Agreement must include the manuscript title, statements of exclusive submission and author approval, permissions and conflict disclosures if applicable, each author's contribution and identifying details, and a declaration of responsibility for the work's integrity and accuracy.
Abstract Review Articles must include an abstract. The abstract must be in free format and no longer than 250 words. The abstract must be unstructured in free format.
Manuscript Review Articles must not exceed 7,000 words. The main text must include an introduction and be subdivided into sections including discussion and conclusions, declaration of conflicts of interest, acknowledgments, and references. The manuscript must include 1 to 6 English keywords and, if generative AI tools were used in manuscript preparation, a disclosure statement at the end of the manuscript before the references list.
References Review Articles must include a minimum of 60 references relevant to the topic. References must be cited by number in parentheses in the text and listed in reference-list order, with all authors named for works with up to 3 authors and the first 3 followed by et al. for works with more than 3 authors.
Figures & Tables Tables must appear in the anonymized manuscript, while figures and other artwork must be uploaded as separate files. Tables must be submitted as editable text with captions, and figures must each have a caption with a brief title and description.

Preliminary Reports

Cover Letter Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract An abstract page is required for Preliminary Reports. The abstract must be no longer than 250 words. The abstract must be in free format.
Manuscript The manuscript must be at most 2,500 words including all sections and the legends of tables and figures. Preliminary Reports must be concise presentations of research results that include sufficient explanation of experimental and methodological data. A generative AI disclosure statement must be added at the end of the manuscript before the references list if AI tools were used in manuscript preparation.
References References must be cited by number in parentheses in the text and listed in the reference list in order of first appearance, listing all authors for up to 3 authors and the first 3 followed by et al. for more than 3 authors.
Figures & Tables Tables must appear in the anonymized manuscript, while figures and other artwork must be uploaded as separate files. Tables must be submitted as editable text rather than images, and all tables and figures must be cited in the manuscript and provided with captions.

The Author Letter Agreement must include the manuscript title, publication and approval attestations, permissions confirmation if applicable, each author's contribution and contact details, conflict disclosures, and statements that all authors approved the final version and take responsibility for the work.
Abstract Abstract requirements are not specified.
Manuscript Letters to the Editor may contain up to 500 words. Letters to the Editor must comment on a key or general interest issue regarding a previously published article in the journal. If generative AI tools were used in manuscript preparation, a disclosure statement must be placed at the end of the manuscript before the references list.
References Letters to the Editor may include up to three bibliographic references. References must be cited by number in parentheses in the text and listed in numerical order, with all authors listed for up to 3 authors and the first 3 followed by et al. for more than 3 authors.
Figures & Tables Letters to the Editor may include no more than two figures. Figures must be supplied as separate files, while tables must appear in the anonymized manuscript. Tables must be submitted as editable text rather than images, and each figure or table must be cited in the manuscript and provided with a caption.
