Anaesthesia & Intensive Care Medicine is published monthly and covers the curriculum of both the Primary and Final FRCA examinations over a three-year cycle. It provides up-to-date content for trainee and experienced anaesthetists, with articles that include learning objectives and MCQs for self-directed learning. The journal is divided between basic scientific and clinical sections, covering topics such as anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, physics, clinical measurement, anaesthetic agents and techniques, perioperative management, audit, trials, statistics, ethical and legal medicine, and pain management.

Submission Instructions

Anaesthesia & intensive care medicine is an invitation-only journal. Submissions are accepted by invitation from the editorial board only. The following article types are accepted:

Review Article

Cover Letter Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract A one-paragraph synopsis is required. Synopsis must be 100 words or fewer. Synopsis must be unstructured as a single paragraph.
Manuscript Review Article length is typically 4000–6000 words including the title page, key points, text, references, and figure legends but excluding tables, boxes, and figures. Manuscript must follow the specific template provided in the welcome email. Manuscript must include 3–8 keywords, 3–5 key points, an Acknowledgements section, funding and conflict-of-interest disclosures including the statement "The Authors have nothing to disclose" if applicable, and disclosure of any AI or AI-assisted writing use in the manuscript.
References References must use AMA style. References must be ordered numerically within the text.
Figures & Tables Figures must not be embedded in MS Word documents and each figure must be submitted as a separate file in the Figures tab in EMSS. Figures, tables, boxes, and videos must be numbered consecutively and mentioned in the text, each figure and video must include a legend, each table and box must include a title, and multipart figures must label parts with uppercase letters.
