Safety and Health at Work

Safety and Health at Work (SH@W) is an international, peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary journal published quarterly in English beginning in 2010. It is the official journal of the Occupational Safety and Health Research Institute, Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency, and focuses on research that improves workers' health and safety across the broad field of occupational health and safety, including original articles, review papers, short communications, commentaries, and case studies.

Original Articles

Cover Letter Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract An abstract is required for Original Articles. Abstract must not exceed 250 words. Abstract must be structured. Abstract must use the headings Background, Methods, Results, and Conclusion.
Manuscript Manuscript must not exceed 5,000 words including the abstract, references, and figure/table legends. Manuscript must follow the sequence title page, abstract and keywords, introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, conclusions if any, acknowledgements, references, and tables and figures. Manuscript must include 3–5 relevant keywords in alphabetical order and, if generative AI tools were used in manuscript preparation, a declaration section before the references.
References References must be cited as non-superscript Arabic numerals in squared brackets in order of appearance and listed in that same order, with up to 6 authors named before et al. for references with more than 6 authors.
Figures & Tables Tables, figures, and images must be prepared in separate files from the main text.

Review Articles

Cover Letter Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract An abstract is required for Review Articles. Abstract must be a single paragraph with a maximum of 200 words. Abstract must be unstructured in one single paragraph.
Manuscript Manuscript must not exceed 6,500 words from introduction to conclusion. Manuscript must include 3–5 relevant keywords in alphabetical order and, if generative AI tools were used in manuscript preparation, a declaration section placed before the references list.
References References must not exceed 100. References must be numbered in the order cited using non-superscript Arabic numerals in square brackets, and entries must list authors' surnames and initials, article title, abbreviated journal name, year, volume, and inclusive page numbers, listing only the first 6 authors followed by et al. when there are more than 6 authors.
Figures & Tables Review Articles may include a maximum of 10 figures and 10 tables. The main text, tables, and figures must be submitted as separate files.

Short Communications

Abstract Abstract is required for Short Communications. Abstract must be an unstructured single paragraph of no more than 150 words. Abstract must be unstructured and presented as a single paragraph. No abstract headings are required because the abstract must be unstructured and single-paragraph.
Manuscript Manuscript text from introduction to conclusion must not exceed 3,000 words. Manuscript must be organized as title page, abstract and keywords, text without section titles, acknowledgements, references, and figures or tables. Keywords must be included, and any use of generative AI in manuscript preparation must be declared in a statement placed before the references list.
References References must not exceed 20. References must be cited with non-superscript Arabic numerals in square brackets in order of appearance and listed in that same order, with more than 6 authors shortened to the first 6 followed by et al.
Figures & Tables Short Communications may include no more than 3 figures and 2 tables. Main text, tables, and figures must be prepared in separate files.

Abstract Abstract is required for Case Reports. Abstract must be a single unstructured paragraph of no more than 150 words. Abstract must be unstructured and written as a single paragraph. Abstract must include the significance and purpose of the case presentation, the diagnostic methods, the key data, and brief comments and suggestions regarding the case.
Manuscript Manuscript must not exceed 1,500 words from introduction to conclusion. Manuscript must follow the sequence title page, abstract and keywords, introduction, case report, discussion, acknowledgments, references, figures, and figure legends. The manuscript must include 3 to 5 relevant keywords in alphabetical order and, if generative AI tools were used in manuscript preparation, a declaration section placed before the references.
