Original Research Articles

Cover Letter Writing or editing assistance by a third party and submission by someone not listed as an author must be disclosed in the covering letter.
Abstract A structured abstract is required. Abstract must not exceed 300 words. Abstract must be structured. Abstract must use the headings Background, Methods, Results, and Conclusion.
Manuscript Main text must not exceed 6,000 words, excluding the abstract, Community Brief, disclosure statements, author contribution statements, funding information, acknowledgments, tables, figure legends, and references. Main text must use the heading structure Background, Methods, Results, and Discussion. Manuscript must include a Community Brief of no more than 500 words after the abstract in question-and-answer format answering the specified seven questions, at least 4 keywords after the abstract, an Author Contributions section after the Acknowledgements, and a Statements and Declarations section with all required subheadings including 'Not applicable' where relevant.
References Original submissions may use any standard citation format. Every in-text citation must have a corresponding reference list entry and vice versa, with identical spelling and year in matching citations.
Figures & Tables A maximum combined total of 4 tables and/or figures is allowed. Figures, charts, and tables created in Word should be included in the main text, while figures created outside Word must be submitted separately with a placeholder note in the text.
