Brain and Behavior is an open access journal covering neurology, neuroscience, psychology, psychiatry, and research related to mental health. It publishes studies on brain function and behavior in relation to health, social and political systems, and the environment, including clinical and basic science research, descriptive studies, preliminary research, and reproducibility-focused work. The journal aims to support high publication standards and foster collaboration among professionals and policymakers in mental health.

Original Research

Cover Letter Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract Original Research articles must include a self-contained, citation-free abstract. Abstract must not exceed 300 words.
Manuscript Original Research articles must be ordered as title page, abstract, up to 4 keywords, main text, references, tables, figures, figure legends, and appendices if relevant, with main text including Introduction, Materials and methods, Results and discussion, and Conclusions. Manuscript must include up to 4 keywords and a disclosure of artificial intelligence use in the Methods section if AI-generated content tools were used.
References Original Research articles should cite more than 5 references. References must be presented in a separate list that includes author name or names and uses a consistent style throughout the manuscript.
Figures & Tables Tables must be included in the main document, while figures may be embedded in the main document or provided separately. Figures must be provided in the highest resolution possible and figure legends must accompany them.

Abstract Abstract is required. Abstract must be 250 words or fewer.
Manuscript Narrative Review Articles must not use traditional Research Article sections such as Materials and Methods or Results, while Systematic Review Articles and Meta-Analyses must follow traditional Research Article sections. Manuscript must include keywords, a graphical abstract submitted as separate file(s), and a disclosure of artificial intelligence use in the Methods section if such tools were used.
References At least 50% of the references must be journal articles. References may use any style for initial submission but must be formatted consistently throughout and include author name or names in a separate reference list.
