Original Research Articles

Abstract A structured abstract is required for Original Research Articles. Abstract must not exceed 300 words. Abstract must be structured. Abstract must use the headings Background, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript Manuscript must be limited to 7,000 words including text, title page, references, figure legends, and tables. Manuscript must be assembled in the order Title Page, Abstract, Text (Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion), Acknowledgments, Sources of Funding, Disclosures, References, Figure Legends, Tables, and Figures. Manuscript must include bulleted 'What is Known' and 'What the Study Adds' statements on their own page after the abstract, with 'What is Known' first, a combined maximum of 5 sentences, no references, 1 to 8 keywords after the abstract, and any automated assistive writing technologies acknowledged or documented in Methods as applicable.
References References must be limited to 50. References must use a numbered endnote style. References must be cited in numerical order by first mention in the text, figures, and tables, and must list the first 10 authors followed by 'et al.'.
Figures & Tables Manuscript must include no more than 8 display items total, including tables and figures. A full manuscript PDF containing text, figures, and tables must be provided for review, or individual manuscript text, figure, and supplemental files may be uploaded instead, with tables and figures either embedded in the manuscript or submitted separately. Tables must be provided as editable text rather than images, and figure legends must be included with the manuscript text file.
