Clinical Therapeutics is a peer-reviewed journal that publishes rapid reports on drugs, biologicals, diagnostics, pharmacoeconomics, health policy, treatment outcomes, and innovations in drug and biologics research and development. It covers work ranging from pivotal multicenter trials and pilot safety studies to pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, bioavailability, biosimilarity, replication studies, negative trials, failed trials, comparative effectiveness, and pharmacoeconomics, along with commentaries and case reports. The journal uses blind peer review and emphasizes clinically relevant therapeutic research with implications for patient care, therapeutic development, or health policy.

Original Research

Cover Letter A cover letter is required for Express Track peer review requests and for FAERS-based adverse event studies to justify the study's novel contribution. Cover letter must include any Express Track peer review request and, for FAERS-based adverse event studies, the justification for the manuscript's novel contribution.
Abstract A structured abstract is required for Original Research manuscripts. Abstract must not exceed 400 words. Abstract must be structured.
Manuscript Main text must not exceed 6000 words. Manuscript must be structured as Introduction, Participants and Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusions. Manuscript must include 4 to 6 keywords, article highlights submitted as a separate editable file with 3 to 5 bullet points, and an AI declaration statement before the references if generative AI was used in manuscript preparation.
References References cited in the article must appear in the reference list, and references cited in the abstract must be given in full.
Figures & Tables Original Research manuscripts must include no more than 8 tables and figures. Express Track peer review is completed within 5-10 business days. A reject or revise decision is provided within 3 business days of receipt of reviewers' comments by the editorial office. Final decisions on revised Express Track manuscripts are made within 15 business days of receipt. Accepted Express Track manuscripts are published online within 20 days from acceptance, pending author approval of proof and payment of page charges. Proof corrections are due within 2 days.

Is a cover letter required?

A cover letter is used for some submissions and requests. Topic update submissions should be identified in the cover letter. For FAERS adverse event studies, the cover letter should explain the novel contribution. Case reports should state whether the case was part of a larger study or meta-analysis and whether it was reported in aggregate elsewhere. Patient informed consent documentation for case reports can be attached to the cover letter. Express Track requests should be made in the cover letter.
