Patient Education and Counseling is the official journal of EACH, the International Association for Communication in Health Care, and ACH, the Academy of Communication in Healthcare. It is an interdisciplinary journal for clinicians that publishes fundamental and applied research on clinical communication, patient education, counseling, health promotion, and training models to improve communication between providers and patients.

Research Paper

Cover Letter A cover letter is required and must indicate the manuscript type. The cover letter must indicate the manuscript type.
Abstract An abstract is required. Abstract must not exceed 300 words. Abstract must be unstructured.
Manuscript Research Paper manuscripts must not exceed 4000 words excluding the abstract, acknowledgements, references, tables, figures, and conflict of interest statements. Research Papers must include a heading selected from Communication Studies, Patient Education, Healthcare Education, Healthcare and Health Promotion, Patient and User Perspectives and Characteristics, Participatory Research, Assessment and Methodology. The manuscript must include 1 to 7 keywords and a generative AI declaration in a new section before the references list if AI tools were used in manuscript preparation.
References References must use a numbered square-bracket citation style. References must be numbered in the order of appearance in the text, and for works with more than 6 authors the first 6 authors should be listed followed by 'et al.'.
Figures & Tables Tables must be submitted as editable text and figures must be supplied as separate files along with the manuscript. All tables and figures must be cited in the manuscript text, numbered according to their order of appearance, and provided with captions.

Manuscript Review Articles must not exceed 5000 words excluding references and tables. The manuscript should be divided into clearly defined and numbered sections. The manuscript must include 1 to 7 keywords in English and, if generative AI tools were used in manuscript preparation, a disclosure section before the references list.
References References must be cited by number in square brackets and listed in numerical order, consistent with Vancouver-style numbering. References in the list must be numbered in the order cited in the text, and for works with more than 6 authors, the first 6 authors should be listed followed by 'et al.'.
Figures & Tables Tables must be submitted as editable text, while figures and other artwork must be supplied as separate files along with the manuscript. All tables and figures must be cited in the text, numbered according to their order of appearance, and accompanied by captions.
