Current Opinion in Neurobiology publishes short annotated review articles by leading experts on recent developments in neurobiology, with special issues organized around topical scientific and societal themes. The journal publishes 6 issues per year covering recurring areas including disease, behavior, cellular, systems, developmental, molecular, computational neuroscience, and learning and plasticity, with additional Hot Topics issues. Review articles are commissioned by section editors and submissions are by invitation only.

Current Opinion In Neurobiology is an invitation-only journal. Submissions are accepted by invitation from the editorial board only. The following article types are accepted:

Review Articles

Cover Letter Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract An abstract is required. Abstract must not exceed 250 words. Abstract must be unstructured.
Manuscript Review Articles should be approximately 2000 words, excluding references and reference notes. The manuscript must be divided into clearly defined sections using headings, and the reference section must include the texts 'References and recommended reading,' 'Papers of particular interest, published within the period of review, have been highlighted as:', '* of special interest,' and '** of outstanding interest.' The manuscript must include 1 to 7 English keywords, submission highlights of 3 to 5 bullet points, and an AI disclosure section before the references if generative AI was used in manuscript preparation.
References Review Articles should include approximately 50 references, with self-citations kept to a minimum and not exceeding 20% of the total references. References must use numbered citations in square brackets. References must be numbered in order of appearance, list the first 6 authors followed by 'et al.' when there are more than 6 authors, include all cited items and only cited items, place any (*) or (**) annotations only in the reference list, and annotate at least 10% of references from the past 2 years with brief descriptions of their findings and importance.
Figures & Tables Review Articles must include no more than 4 tables or figures and must include at least one figure summarizing the main concepts discussed. Figures must be supplied as separate files, while tables are submitted with the manuscript as editable text. Tables must be editable text with captions and consecutive numbering, and all figures and tables must be cited in the manuscript text.
