Diagnostics is an international, peer-reviewed, open access journal on medical diagnosis published semimonthly online by MDPI. The British Neuro-Oncology Society (BNOS), the International Society for Infectious Diseases in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (ISIDOG) and the Swiss Union of Laboratory Medicine (SULM) are affiliated with Diagnostics and their members receive a discount on the article processing charges.

Article

Cover Letter A cover letter is required with the submission. The cover letter must explain the significance of the paper, explain its fit to the journal’s scope, include the statements that the manuscript is not under consideration or published elsewhere and that all authors approved the submission, and for expanded conference papers disclose that status and describe changes from the original paper.
Abstract An abstract is required. Original research articles must include a structured abstract of around 250 words. The abstract must be structured for original research articles. The abstract must use the headings Background/Objectives, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript Articles must include Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, and optional Conclusions, with front matter of Title, Author list, Affiliations, Abstract, and Keywords and back matter of Supplementary Materials, Author Contributions, Funding, Data Availability Statement, Acknowledgments, Conflicts of Interest, and References. Three to ten keywords must appear after the abstract, a short paragraph of individual author contributions must be provided for multi-author research articles, and a separate Conflicts of Interest section must appear just before the references.
References References must be numbered in order of appearance. References must be listed individually at the end of the manuscript, and citation numbers in the text must appear in square brackets before punctuation.
Figures & Tables Figures, schemes, and tables must be inserted into the main text close to their first citation. Figures, schemes, and tables must be numbered in order of appearance and each must have a short explanatory title and caption.

Review

Cover Letter A cover letter is required with the submission. The cover letter must explain the paper's significance and fit with the journal's scope and include statements confirming exclusive submission and approval by all authors.
Abstract An abstract should be included for Reviews, and systematic reviews must include a structured abstract. Systematic reviews must have a structured abstract of around 250 words. Systematic reviews must use a structured abstract, while other Reviews are described as including an abstract without a specified structure. Systematic review abstracts must use the headings Background/Objectives, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript Reviews should include front matter with Title, Author list, Affiliations, Abstract, and Keywords; logically organized review sections with optional subsections; and back matter with Author Contributions, Acknowledgments, Conflicts of Interest, and References, while systematic reviews and meta-analyses must use the same structure as research articles. Reviews must include 3 to 10 keywords after the abstract and a separate 'Conflicts of Interest' section before the references, and reviews must not present new, unpublished data.
References References must be numbered in order of appearance in the text, including table captions and figure legends, with citation numbers placed in square brackets before punctuation. References must be listed individually at the end of the manuscript and include the author name or names, journal or book title, article or chapter title where required, year of publication, volume and issue where appropriate, and pagination.
Figures & Tables Figures, schemes, and tables must be inserted into the main text close to their first citation. Figures, schemes, and tables must be numbered in order of appearance and each must have a short explanatory title and caption.

Manuscript Case Reports must include an introduction, a case presentation, a discussion, and a conclusion, and the case presentation must cover relevant de-identified patient demographics, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, and outcome. The manuscript must include 3 to 10 keywords after the abstract and a separate 'Conflicts of Interest' section before the reference list.
References References must be numbered in order of appearance, including in table captions and figure legends, listed individually at the end of the manuscript, and cited in square brackets before punctuation.
