Disease Models & Mechanisms (DMM) is an open access journal that publishes rigorously peer-reviewed research in disease biology with significant translational impact at the interface of basic and clinical science. The journal is interdisciplinary in scope, covers a diverse range of diseases, and also publishes techniques and resources that advance the disease biology field.

Research Articles

Cover Letter Cover letter should clearly highlight the paper’s key findings and explain their significance and interest to the field.
Abstract Abstract is required. Abstract must not exceed 180 words. Abstract must be unstructured with no subheadings.
Manuscript Research Articles must contain no more than 8000 words including the main text and figure legends but excluding the title page, abstract, Materials and Methods section, and reference list. Manuscript should include an Introduction without subheadings, a Results section broken up by subheadings, and a Materials and Methods section divided into sections. Manuscript must include 3 to 6 keywords, a summary statement of up to 30 words, a dedicated AI-use declaration in Materials and Methods when applicable, and for new chemical compounds the chemical structure and method of synthesis.
References References must use the Harvard name-date citation style. References must be listed in a single reference list at the end of the article in alphabetical order by the first author’s surname and initials, with 'et al.' used after the 10th author when there are more than 10 authors.
Figures & Tables Research Articles must contain no more than eight display items including figures, tables, and boxes. For new submissions, a single PDF containing the text, figures with legends, and tables is recommended, while figures must not be embedded in the text and tables must be included in the manuscript file. Figures must be clearly numbered and accompanied by legends in the main text file, and bar graphs with error bars must show individual data points or use an acceptable alternative such as box-and-whisker plots or super plots.
