Cover Letter Cover letter must accompany the submission.
Abstract Abstract is required. Abstract must be no more than 150 words. Abstract must be unstructured with no subheadings.
Manuscript Manuscript must include an Introduction with no subheadings, Results with subheadings, Discussion with no subheadings and no limitations or conclusions section, and Methods with subheadings, with all Methods content included in the main manuscript file. Manuscript must include a Data availability section, an Author contributions statement naming all authors by initials, a Competing Interests statement, and funding information in the Acknowledgments rather than in a separate Funding statement.
References References are limited to 60, though this limit is not strictly enforced.
Figures & Tables Figure legends must be no more than 350 words per figure, and multi-panel figures must appear on a single page with panels labeled a), b), c), and so on.

Manuscript Main text should be 1,000-1,500 words, excluding the abstract, methods, references, and figure legends. Main text must have no subheadings, while the Methods section must use subheadings. The manuscript must include an Author contributions statement naming all authors by initials, a Competing Interests statement for each author, and a Code availability section where applicable.
References References should be around 20.
