Cover Letter A cover letter is required. Cover letter must explain the importance of the work, explain its suitability for the diverse readership of Nature Aging, disclose any related manuscripts under consideration or in press elsewhere, and state any prior discussions with a Nature Aging editor about the work.
Abstract An abstract is required. Abstract must be up to 150 words, although clinical and public health research Articles may have longer abstracts to accommodate statistical information. Abstract must be unstructured and unreferenced.
Manuscript Main text must be up to 4,500 words, excluding abstract, Methods, references and figure legends. Article must be divided into an Introduction without heading, Results, Discussion and Online Methods, with Results and Online Methods divided by topical subheadings. Manuscript must include Methods, figures and Extended Data if applicable, must contain the names and affiliations of all co-authors unless double-blind peer review is chosen, and any use of a Large Language Model must be documented in the Methods section or another suitable part of the manuscript.
References References are typically recommended up to 60.
Figures & Tables Display items are limited to 8 total figures and/or tables, and a maximum of 10 Extended Data display items is permitted.

Abstract An abstract is not required because the article instead begins with an introductory paragraph that is part of the main text. The introductory paragraph should be approximately 150 words. The abstract is replaced by an unstructured introductory paragraph that is considered part of the main text.
Manuscript Main text should be approximately 2,500 words, excluding the introductory paragraph, online Methods, references and figure legends. Letters are usually not divided by headings, except for the online Methods headings.
