European Journal of Surgical Oncology is the official journal of the European Society of Surgical Oncology and BASO ~ the Association for Cancer Surgery. It aims to advance surgical oncology research and practice through publication of original research articles, review articles, editorials, debates and correspondence, and welcomes submissions on clinical research and other aspects of surgical oncology that advance cancer patient care, including surgical quality control, epidemiology, preventative aspects, and translational research relevant to surgical oncology practice.

Original Articles

Cover Letter Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract A structured abstract is required for Original Articles. The abstract must not exceed 250 words. The abstract must be structured. The structured abstract should be divided into Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, and Conclusion.
Manuscript Original Articles are limited to 3000 words in length. The article must be divided into clearly defined and numbered sections, and journal-level essential elements include Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Conclusions, Artwork, and Tables with Captions. The manuscript must include keywords with a maximum of 6, submit highlights as a separate editable file containing 3 to 5 bullet points of no more than 85 characters each, include a competing interests statement, and include any AI-use disclosure in a section titled 'Declaration of AI and AI-assisted technologies in the writing process' placed before the references.
References References in the text must be indicated by number in square brackets. The reference list must be numbered in the order in which references appear in the text, and references may be in any consistent style or format at submission.
Figures & Tables Original Articles may include a maximum of six tables or figures. Figures and tables in a single submission file must be placed next to the relevant text with the corresponding caption directly below each figure or table. All figures must include captions, and all tables must include titles, descriptions, and footnotes.

The manuscript must include highlights of 3 to 5 bullet points, a maximum of 6 keywords, a declaration of interest statement, and any AI-use disclosure in a section titled 'Declaration of AI and AI-assisted technologies in the writing process' placed before the references.
References Review Articles may include a maximum of 100 references. References in the text must be indicated by number in square brackets. The reference list must be numbered in the order in which references appear in the text.
Figures & Tables Review Articles may include a maximum of six tables or figures. Figures and tables included in a single manuscript file must be placed next to the relevant text with the corresponding caption directly below each figure or table. Each figure must include a caption and each table must include a title, description, and any footnotes.
