Environmental Toxicology is a hybrid journal providing a forum to advance the scientific understanding of environmental contaminants and their toxicological impacts on living organisms. It publishes innovative research, comprehensive reviews, and critical insights across core areas of environmental toxicology, including pollutant toxicity, exposure and health risks, ecotoxicology, aquatic toxicology, toxicological mechanisms, environmental risk assessment and management, testing models, pollution mitigation and remediation assessed with toxicology or risk, and the interface between human health and the environment.

Research Articles

Cover Letter A cover letter is required to justify Research Articles that exceed the recommended 10,000-word limit excluding references. Cover letter must justify any Research Article exceeding 10,000 words excluding references and, if the submission is a revised or extended version of a previously rejected manuscript, must identify the prior manuscript ID and explain the changes made.
Abstract An abstract is required. Abstract must be 250 words or fewer.
Manuscript Research Articles have a recommended limit of 10,000 words excluding references. Manuscript must contain the sections abstract, introduction, methods, results, and conclusions. Manuscript must include five keywords and a Data Availability Statement, and when data is available and linked the data must also be cited in the reference list.
References References must be numbered consecutively in order of appearance, journal title abbreviations must conform to Chemical Abstracts practice, and citations of linked datasets must be included in the reference list when applicable.
Figures & Tables Figures must be supplied as separate files, while the manuscript may include text, figures, and tables together or provide them as separate files. Figures and tables must have legends and tables must be supplied as editable files rather than pasted as images.

Review Articles

Cover Letter A cover letter is required only if the review exceeds 20,000 words excluding references or if it is a revised or extended version of a previously rejected manuscript. The cover letter must justify any review article exceeding 20,000 words excluding references and, for a revised or extended resubmission after rejection, include the previous manuscript ID and a detailed explanation of changes made.
Abstract An abstract is required. Abstract must be 250 words or fewer.
Manuscript Review articles must not exceed 20,000 words excluding references. The manuscript must contain abstract, introduction, methods, results, and conclusions. The manuscript must include five keywords and a Data Availability Statement.
