Original Research Articles

Cover Letter A separate cover letter is required. Cover letter must state the paper's main contribution and reasons for submission, affirm that the paper and data have not previously been published except possibly as an abstract, affirm that no similar paper is in press or under review elsewhere, disclose conflicts of interest or none, and list closely related papers included with the submission or state there are none.
Abstract A structured abstract is required. Abstract must be limited to 250 words. Abstract must be structured. Abstract must use the headings Background, Methods, Results, and Conclusions, and the Methods section must identify the study population, study years, and location if appropriate.
Manuscript Manuscript must be 1500 to 4000 words. Manuscript should begin with a short introduction followed by Methods, Results, and Discussion. Manuscript must include four to eight keywords after the abstract, and any use of AI tools in writing, image or graphical production, or data collection and analysis must be disclosed in the Materials and Methods or similar section with the tool and its use described.
References References must be numbered in order of appearance in the text, tables, and figures, cited in the text as superscripts after punctuation, listed at the end of the main text file, use PubMed journal title abbreviations, and for more than six authors list the first three followed by "et al.".
Figures & Tables Tables, figures, figure legends, and the reference list must be included in the main text file. Tables must be created with the word processor table feature and numbered in order of presentation, and figures must be numbered in the order discussed with brief legends provided for each figure.
